In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

At the end of 2015, I set myself three reading challenges for 2016, and to keep myself and you guys (because you are, of course, riveted by my reading life) updated on my progress, I thought I’d do a check in at the end of each month! So, here is my update for September:

goodreads challenge – 150 books

september-collage1

I read twenty three books in September, which brings me to a total of one hundred and thirty three books so far. I have kinda blown this challenge out of the water! Which surprises me a lot, especially since for the first half of the year or so I was always behind on the Goodreads challenge.

Titles reviewed:

Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig

Girl Mans Up by M-E Girard

Shield by Rachael Craw

The Black Key by Amy Ewing

Spare and Found Parts by Sarah Maria Griffin

lgbtqia+ challenge – 41-50 books

september-collage2

I read six LGBTQIA+ books this month (total for 2016 so far: forty three). I have officially made it into the lower rung of this challenge, so I have pretty much completed it! Although, if I’m being honest, I have always been aiming for the 50 rather than the 41, but still. I’ve made it into the threshold and this makes me incredibly happy. And there are still two months and a bit left of the year to make it to 50. I think I’ll manage ;)

indie lgbtqia+ challenge – 1 book per month

Well, I was able to read one indie LGBTQIA+ title this month, and it was this short story from C.S. Pacat. I probably won’t be reviewing it, since it is quite short, but I will say that it was lovely to revisit characters that I love so much. I’m glad I kept on track with this challenge in September, although it was kinda sneaky because I only found out that this wasn’t traditionally published today *hides*

  1. As always, it is so lovely to hear about your reading challenge progress! 2016 is nearly over and I truly cannot wait to hear which challenges you & other bloggers choose to participate in next year; it’s always such a joy to follow along with everyone’s challenges and see how they push themselves to read more widely, more diversely, & more uncomfortably to learn & grow in their reading. I think that is perhaps one of the most gorgeous reasons to choose to take this ridiculous & beautiful journey of being a book lover. <3

I must admit that I participate in the challenges I know I will be able to complete (like writing a list of things you know you can do quickly, just so you can have the feeling of crossing the things off it). I knew that I would read a lot of queer novels this year, so the LGBTQIA+ challenge was easy for me. My indie LGBTQIA+ was not a given, and I’m glad that I have been able to complete it (or over complete it) almost every month. I will have to look around next year for a challenge that might not be so easy to complete, so I can really give myself a challenge!

  2. Congrats on your challenges! It looks like you’re doing a really good job on all of them and that’s awesome. You still have a couple more months to go – you can do it!
