enticeWhat: Entice (Ignite #1.5) by Erica Crouch

Who#2: Patchwork Press

When: November 19th 2013

How: A copy of this novel was provided by the author as part of a book tour.

With the aftertaste of Heaven still strong, Pen and Azael cloak themselves in their new demonic destinies, fighting for Lucifer against the angels. Pen, warring against former friends turned vengeful enemies, still struggles with defecting to Hell. But in one short battle, they go from forgotten to famous, thrust into the spotlight where she has no room for uncertainty.

Suddenly top-tiered demons, they’re tasked with seeing through hell’s new agenda: corrupting man. But tarnishing Eden isn’t as simple as they thought it would be, especially when they’re forced to work with another team of demons who are trying to claw their way up the ladder of power.

5cats2As most if you probably know, Ignite by Erica Crouch is one of my favourite books of all time. When I finished it, I wrote a fangirling review that accurately depicted my emotions. I was in love with every word that Erica had written, every twist and turn of the plot, every single thing. So when the team at Patchwork Press invited me to join the Entice blog tour, there was absolutely no chance that I was going to decline.

As with everything written by one of your favourite authors, there comes a small amount of trepidation. Will I love this new story as much as the first? I had this thought when I went into Entice. And in all reality, I shouldn’t have.

Entice was the perfect novella. It was long enough to provide you with insight into the overall story of the series, and it was just as beautifully written as Ignite. I should never have worried at all.

Entice gave a look into the battle between Heaven and Hell, Pen’s role in Michael’s demise, and Pen and Az’s initiation into Hell, and how their relationship changed as a result. I LOVED this. I love Pen and Az’s relationship; it is one of my favourite aspects of the Ignite series. They have such diverse interactions, and I was so pleased that Entice focussed on that.

I still adore Az. He just seems so confused and in need of guidance (from someone not evil). I want to pull him out of the page and give him a hug, even if he yells profanities at me and wields his scythe. I’d do it anyway.

Again, Pen was divine. She is hands down one of my all time favourite female main characters that I have read in the young adult genre. She is so dedicated to Az, truly willing to do anything to protect him. And that is so extremely admirable. Again, we were given insight into her beautiful way of thinking, and the confusion she feels towards her situation. I loved finding out why she acts the way she does in the beginning of Ignite. It makes so much more sense now.

I devoured this book in one sitting. I simply could not tear myself away from the world that Erica has created. She writes in such a way that you feel is if you are right there along with Pen; seeing what she sees, feeling what she feels. It is addictive, and amazing. There was not one moment where I wasn’t immersed in the world of Entice, and not one moment where I didn’t want that to be the case. Entice is simply superb.

The ending made me so extremely excited for Incite, and I cannot even fathom how I am going to cope with the time that I have to wait before I read more of this story. The Ignite series is fast becoming my all time favourite, and I will most definitely be reading Ignite and Entice numerous times before Incite is finally in my hands!

When I came across my name in the acknowledgements in Entice, my heart literally skipped a beat. I have never felt so honoured. I will always welcome you into my e-reader, Erica!

Erica Crouch has again blown me away with the beauty of her writing, as is becoming the norm with her. If you haven’t read Entice, you need to – now!

excerpt!

The crowd around me parts slowly as I run forward, jumping into the sky to let my now black and heavy wings carry me to my brother. When I reach him, he opens his arms as if to embrace me, but I shove the gesture away.

I grab his wrists in my hands and spin him around, checking for the fatal wound I was sure Michael was about to deliver. But he’s not hurt. Not really. I spin him around and around, checking for blood, not believing he could walk away from sure death uninjured.

“Relax, Pen,” he chastises, but I spin him around harder, turning his voice, his stupid, arrogant face away from me.

He has a collection of small scratches and half-healed scars across his arms, the back of his neck, and along his jaw. His bottom lip is split and he has a bruise over his eye so dark it looks black. But he’s not badly hurt, not broken anywhere—in fact, I’m more damaged than he is.

After I’m satisfied he’s not hiding a more serious injury, I drop his arms and step away.

“You are an imbecile,” I tell him.

“I’m a bloody hero, thank you very much.”

“You.” I step closer to him, pointing my finger in his face accusingly. His smile widens and I’m engulfed in rage—in an anger that expands with fear and the possibility of what could have happened. The probability of what should have happened…but didn’t. The almost is unbearable. I curl my finger into my fist and, before I can reel in my temper, throw the hardest punch I can muster. I hear the bones in his jaw break.

He doesn’t even blink. He just puts his hand, dark with dried blood—is it his?—to his jaw and laughs, short and irritated. “Not the typical way to reward a victor, but I appreciate the gusto.”

Hot tears burn the back of my eyes. “You could have died.” My voice comes out in a harsh whisper, and I’m suddenly very aware of all of the eyes trained on us. “What were you thinking? Were you even thinking?”
