5-reasons

Five Reasons To is basically my way of convincing you to love the same things I do. Because I love a lot of things for a lot of reasons. Hopefully my powers of persuasion will work their magic on you, and you can find new things to love!

Today, I am going to give you five reasons to:

Yuri on Ice

1. Victor Goddamn Nikiforov

(source)

Victor is like the most perfect character in history. I adore him endlessly, and to be honest there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for this precious cinnamon roll. It’s kind of difficult to explain everything that I love about Victor because he’s an incredibly nuanced character. He’s sweet and adorable, driven and ambitious, loyal and honest, loving and caring. He is everything. I don’t know what this world did to deserve Victor Nikiforov.

2. Yuri Plisetsky

(source)

MY SWEET AND SOUR LITTLE CHILD. The above gif is somewhat misleading because this is legit the only time Yurio looks that happy and sweet. And it’s because he’s talking about his grandfather <3 I absolutely adore Yurio because:

a) He loves cats. SOULMATES.

b) He skates beautifully.

c) He is full of sass.

d) He pretends to not give a shit but actually cares.

3. Yuri Katsuki

(source)

How could I not include the titular character in this list of reasons to watch Yuri on Ice? I couldn’t. Because Yuri is an INCREDIBLE character. A lot of his arc is to do with his anxiety, and him doubting himself and his worth as a figure skater. Watching him battle this and overcome this, but not be magically ~over it~ is something that a TV show has never really done before. Yuri’s love for his family and friends is absolutely heartwarming, and watching him grow as a character over the course of the first season is something that makes him feel incredibly real. I will always want the best for my Yuri.

4. It’s Queer AF

(source)

There is no queer baiting in Yuri on Ice. The relationship between Victor and Yuri is canon. C A N O N. This is unprecedented, to be honest. This show is breaking boundaries and is just So Important.

But above all that, there’s this ship. This ship that is perfect in all its imperfections. This ship that sees ups and downs, but always ends in love and support. This ship that will slay all other ships. This perfect, beautiful ship.

5. Literally Everything

(source)

The skating. The side characters (JJ!). The dynamics. The art. The MUSIC. The character growth. The relationship development. The theme song. The closing credits. The costumes. The colours. LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS SHOW, OKAY?

So these are five reasons for you to watch Yuri on Ice! I truly hope I’ve convinced you because there is so much to be gained from watching this amazing show.

Ta ta for now,

  1. Kayla says:

Okay, FINE I’LL HAVE TO WATCH IT! I’ve been seeing so many people on tumblr freak out about it and now you and now it’s definitely moving up my watch list!

    • Chiara says:

YAAAAY! I really hope you like it, Kayla :D I am 100% up for fangirling, by the way!

      • Kayla says:

Okay, so…. I started watching it one day and finished it in, like, 3 days. There’s going to be another season though right? And the theme song is stuck in my head all of the time… and I loved the skating… and I just want more! I need more Yuri and Victor. And you were right about all of the characters! Yurio is so cute when he talks about/to his grandfather… UGH I could just go on haha!

        • Chiara says:

YESS. I am so, so glad you enjoyed it :D There is definitely going to be a season two, which is just incredible! Oh, don’t even get me started with that theme song, haha. I had to buy it right away so that I could play it all the time. Eep, it really makes me so happy that you liked it so much, Kayla!!

          • Kayla says:

I just saw like official art they released for it or something and I’m so excited XD I really do need to go buy the song though. Literally everything about this show is so good!

  2. Tasya says:

AAAH okay I really need to finish this show! I really adored it, the characters, the skating, the animation, the way it deals with serious theme… it’s just awesome! Also the way the animators pay attention to the details is just A+++.

  3. Jennifer says:

I just put this in my queue not too long ago, although I’m not really into sport anime… I’ve watched one other about swimming like a dozen times.

  4. This show is everywhere. EVERYWHERE!! And it has such an intense following. I’ve never really watched any sport anime (I mean, I watched Free but a lot of that was to laugh at the hilarious subtext, and now I mostly follow the hilarious abridged version 50% off) but I’m THIS CLOSE to making Yuri on Ice my first!

    • Chiara says:

To be honest, the sport is not such a big thing. I mean, it is in there but it’s super pretty and the competitiveness is not the main plot. I really hope you watch Yuri on Ice, Bec!

  5. I’ve never watched anime before, but I have wanted too. This one sounds fantastic. I wonder if I can find it here…is it on Netflix?

    -Lauren

    • Chiara says:

This would be an awesome anime to start with, Lauren! I watched anime a lot when I was a teenager but eventually drifted away from it, but Yuri on Ice got me back into it again :D You can watch it via crunchyroll for free (with ads, or you can try a free two week premium trial and then just cancel after you watch it) AND it supports the creators!

  6. Valerie says:

Basically Yuri and Victor are the ONLY THING NEEDED TO CONVINCE OTHERS. Also, my fault, but I haven’t finished the season yet. It’s just really stressful. FOR ME. Even though I know how it ends. I’ll finish it soon.

  7. I’ve heard good things about this anime but you’re the only one who convinced me to watch it! :D

  8. It had been a while since I cried over Yuri On Ice, so thank you for that, Chiara!

But seriously… IT’S AMAZING. And YESS to #4! I loved it specifically because it was suuuuper queer.

I think I may have to re-watch it!

    • Chiara says:

      YESSS :D

Me, too! After anime being so fan servicey but not actually canonically queer it was amazing to finally have a real m/m relationship on screen <3

DO IT. I've already watched it twice and want to watch it again, haha XD

  9. Silvia says:

YES YES YES I LOVE THIS POST!
But don’t forget Yuri also looked happy and smol™ on his date with Otabek ?
