Five Reasons To: Watch Free! Iwatobi Swim Club
Five Reasons To is basically my way of convincing you to love the same things I do. Because I love a lot of things for a lot of reasons. Hopefully my powers of persuasion will work their magic on you, and you can find new things to love!
Today, I am going to give you five reasons to:
Free! Iwatobi Swim Club + Eternal Summer
1. Rin Matsuoka
Rin Matsuoka is everything and needs to be protected. He is precious and adorable. He blends being a total badass with being an emotional wreck and what more could you ask for, really? His love for Haru and swimming are beautiful. And so is he.
2. Haruka Nanase
Ah, look at my little cinnamon bun! Haru is a Sensitive Soul, and I adore him endlessly. He’s quiet and shy and only swims free. Also very much in love with Rin Matsuoka. His character arc over the two seasons of Free! is all kinds of incredible, and I swear to god I never expected to care so much about this free swimming child as much as I do.
3. Makoto Tachibana
He feeds this kitten AND KISSES THIS KITTEN and is literally the best friend in the entire world. I started off Free! shipping Mako and Haru, but I ended up friend-shipping them because their friendship is AMAZING. Mako knows Haru so well, and I love that Haru doesn’t have to be someone else when he’s with Mako. All in all Mako is the sweetest in the entire world.
4. FRIENDSHIP (and ship ships)
The best thing about Free!, in my books, is the friendship. A lot of the show centres on this group of adorable boys (above) and how they help and support each other and grow with each other. From helping Rei to swim, to getting Rin to fall in love with swimming again, and to wanting Haru to find his dream. Free! is full of amazing friendships.
And SHIPS IN GENERAL. HARU AND RIN. NAGISA AND REI. MAKO AND SOUSUKE. DON’T TOUCH ME.
5. The Art
I am very, very picky when it comes to my anime because I am an art SNOB. If I don’t like the art in a show then I won’t be as keen or as motivated to watch it. From the first episode of Free! I was absolutely in love with the art. LOOK AT IT. IT IS PERFECT. Everyone is so goddamn pretty, and the colours are so bright and beautiful. I 100% have not bought two Free! art books at all. NOPE.
So these are five reasons for you to watch Free! I hope I have convinced you because this show is A+ in every way.
Ta ta for now,
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS ONE!? (I’ve watched it a dozen times. I need help…)
Which episode is your favorite?
I AM CURRENTLY OBSESSED. I already know that I am going to rewatch it a hundred times <3
I would have to say it's probably a tie between the last episode of ISC and the episode where Rin and Haru go to Australia *.* What about you?
It’s a toss-up between the festival episode in ISC and the first episode of Eternal Summer. Though, the trip to Australia is kind of up there, too.
Yay for the Australia trip! I really loved the OVA, as well.
I have no way of watching those, unless I bought the DVDs, but I have a trip to Florida coming up so it’ll have to wait.
I really need to check this out. I keep meaning to watch something anime anyway. Love the friendships – and actual ships! They sound great.
Ah, I really do hope you watch this one, Lauren! It’s on Crunchroll :D Sadly the ships aren’t canon, but there are a lot of shippy moments! And the friendships are what really make this show so special <3
I still haven’t watched Eternal Summer yet. I’ve been so slack with my anime the last year or two
BEC HOW COULD YOU? I thought I wouldn’t love Eternal Summer as much as ISC, but I ended up loving it a lot. Haru’s character growth is amazing <3
