Books for Thought is where I post a discussion topic related to books, reading, writing, or something pertaining to one of the three. I hope you’ll join in, and discuss today’s topic of
binge reading a genre
I recently read Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas. I was searching through my books for Far From You by Tess Sharpe, and I found Dangerous Girls instead. I was all: what the heck, I’ll just read this one. I had heard so much about this book, and I was equal parts nervous and excited to read it. Nervous because hype really does not do anything for me, in fact more often than not hype will decrease my love for a book because I go in expecting it to be amazing. And excited because I had wanted to read it for a really long time.
I DEVOURED IT. It was one of those books that I just could not stop reading. It really was as good as everyone said it was. I won’t say anything more, because this post isn’t actually about that book. (But you should totally read it if you haven’t – especially since it is LGBTQIA+ AND mystery/thriller).
Anyway, once I finished DG, I was all: omg, this book was so fucking great. I need more books like this in my life.
And then I remembered that I’d purchased Made For You by Melissa Marr, which is ALSO mystery/thriller. So I read that immediately after. I really liked it.
I ordered Rosebush by Michele Jaffe a few books later, and this really cemented the fact that I am currently on a mystery/thriller binge. I just want to read these mysterious books where I can try and guess what happened or who the killer is or if the main character is going to live or not. There’s just this ~feeling~ I get when I read them, and it’s so different to reading any other genre.
The mystery/thriller genre was one I hadn’t really read much of, but when I went through my books on Goodreads to make my mystery/thriller shelf, I had really liked a lot of them. Which leads me to wonder why the hell I hadn’t read more, but better late than never, right?
I currently have a tonne of mystery/thrillers on hold at my library, and I cannot WAIT to sink my teeth into them. READ ALLLLL THE MYSTERY/THRILLERS.
What about you? Have you ever binged a genre? Which one?
