The Ultimate Book Tag!
Over a month ago the lovely Lauren @ SERIESous Book Reviews tagged me for The Ultimate Book Tag! But since we all know how terrible I am at actually completing those things, here I am. A month later ;D
1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?
Oh my lord yes. I get sick if I look at my phone for approximately five seconds while in a car. I get terrible motion sickness of every kind T.T
2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Completely unique in general, I’d have to say Tahereh Mafi because have you read her books? They’re amazeballs in way of writing.
But to me – David Levithan. His books are so unconventionally written. And gorgeous.
3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.
1. I read the entire Twilight series and I liked the first book, to be honest.
2. I adored Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when I read it as a kiddlywink, but never read beyond that.
3. So therefore, I couldn’t really choose because one went downhill, and I never finished the other. Oops.
4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books)?
No, I do not. I used to sometimes carry a book in my bag if I had a few hours between uni classes but not any more. A) they’re heavy, and B) they get ruined.
In my bag I usually carry my wallet, my phone, my glasses, and my lip balm. I keep it simple!
5. Do you smell your books?
Hells yes. I smell my books because the book smell is divine.
6. Books with or without little illustrations?
If the illustrations are pretty and relevant – with. If they’re ugly and irrelevant – without.
7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
Twilight. I devoured that book to be honest, but now I’m like … yeah, not so great. And some of my favourites from my childhood that I have gone back and read. Which is actually really sad. I’m disillusioning myself.
8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!
Uhm … not really. I wasn’t a funny child. I was stupendously academic and quietly intelligent, obviously. Not too different to how I am now ;)
9. What is the tiniest book on your shelf?
I have a tiny copy of a pop up Beauty & the Beast, and also a teeny tiny Princess Diaries book!
10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?
EH. My shelves are too small to house all my books! But Breaking Dawn is currently acting as a stool for things in my wardrobe, so probably that.
11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
12. When did you get into reading?
I’ve always been into reading. I don’t even remember a time when I wasn’t reading one book or another!
13. What is your favourite classic book?
Frankenstein. My lord, it’s beautiful and heartwrenching, and completely captivated me. I also adore Black Beauty, though. <3
14. In school what was your best subject?
I received As in all but two of my subjects, but my favourite was English (but only when we were allowed to write creative pieces).
15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?
Try to pawn it off to someone else, because I am really kind like that.
16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
Similar to Harry Potter? UGH, there was a series that I loved as a kid, and it was about this boy that went on a shitload of magical adventures, but I cannot remember the name *crying* Okay, after MUCH annoyance and GREAT strength I found the book in the depths of my house. The series is called A Handful of Magic.
As for The Hunger Games – I’d say Aberrant by Ruth Silver.
17. What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?
I take a long time to reply to comments. EEP.
18. What is your favorite word?
My favourite word tends to change, but at the moment I am fancying gossamer.
19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?
20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?
Vampires, because I’d fit right in with my pale complexion.
21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?
Angels, because then I’d finally be able to fly.
22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?
Werewolves, because PUPPEH.
23. Zombies or Vampires? Why?
Vampires. Again with the complexion. Also dead flesh that is rotting is not really attractive.
24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?
Forbidden love because love triangles are heinous and always leave me 100% dissatisfied.
25. And finally: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
To be honest, I like both. How about an action-packed book that is 50% love scenes? I’m down for that.
I Tag: Nova @ Out of Time, Mitchii @ The Aeropapers, Jess @ My Reading Dress, Eugenia @ Genie in a Book, Kristy @ Book Nerd Reviews, and Asti @ Oh, the Books!
Although, if you want to do this tag, I tag you! :D
Black Beauty! I love that book. I also love the movie. But the book is excellent. Definitely one of my favorite childhood classics (although I also adore A Little Princess). Favorite classics in general though are To Kill a Mockingbird and Watership Down (because BUNNEHS). I also totally agree with you about Tahereh Mafi’s writing. SO GORGEOUS. And last, I’d probably go: fairies, shape shifters, werewolves, then vampires. (P.S. I think at this point almost every reader is going to pick forbidden love over love triangle, haha.)
Yay! You have good taste, Mallory :D The movie renders me a sobbing mess, so I try not to watch it too often, haha XD
I find it hard to pick my favourite supernatural creature, because they all have their good and bad aspects. I think I really do like fairies, though. Especially the Sarah J. Maas kinds ;D
Right? Does anyone even like love triangles anymore? XD
I agree about twilight, I read it one setting as well, but I hated that book honestly. I love vampires as well, I kind of like angels in books too, but I’m just getting more into angel reading so dunno which is better.
I agree about smelling your books too, I do that to mine all the time though especially older books that I own. I hate smelling books borrowed from the library though, god know’s where it’s been lol awesome answers!
I think because I have read SO many good books since Twilight, it has fallen even further, haha XD
I’ve read a few angel books that I LOVE, so I had to pick them!
Yeah, I don’t smell library books, haha XD But older books and newer books, definitely!
I probably would have replied with Twilight too! It brought me friends that I still talk to but for the life of me I cannot imagine myself reading it right now. Andddd I also read 50 Shades when it was being updated, as a fanfic and now I look back at myself and feel like ashamed because…..seriously? I SO AGREE about Tahereh Mafi, ahhhhhh! I love her writing style. #goals
Andddd about blogging: I also take ages to trply to comments!
Love these kinda tags because I get to know more about the person behind the blog :)
Right! I think a lot of people got into reading through Twilight, so I could never truly hate it. Awh, don’t feel ashamed! You should never feel ashamed about what you read <3
Yesss, oh my god. I hope that my writing is as beautiful as Mafi's, seriously!
I am terrible at comments, because I am lazy and they just keep piling up, haha XD
Yay, I'm glad you enjoyed this one, Alejandra!
Better late than never ;) Thanks for doing this! It was great to read your answers!
I’m glad I’m not the only person on the planet who isn’t on the Harry Potter train :P
Frankenstein was one book I didn’t totally enjoy the first time I read it in high school. But when I studied it again in university, I had a much greater appreciation for it.
Right! :D No problem – thank you for tagging me ^.^
Haha *high five* I just kind of feel like I got enough from the movies, to be honest!
Awh, yay! I’m glad you ended up enjoying it more later on! I didn’t have to read it for school, which I am glad for. I think it sometimes ruins books, unfortunately.
Agreed *high five*, the movies were a lot more enjoyable to me!
Yes, school sometimes ruins books. I’ve only really enjoyed 2 or 3 books that I have had to read for school. It’s a shame but nothing you are ever “forced” to watch/read something you never like it ask much as you’d like.
I already feel sick just by sitting on moving vehicle what more if I read. Twilight is the one that opened the worlds reading to me. I still liked it despite I’ve read many books which I think high quality than Twilight. But somehow it’ll always have a special place in my heart. Oh, I was tagged will do this later. :D
Same! I get terrible motion sickness D:
Exactly! I don’t think I’d ever truly hate it, even if it isn’t as wonderful as I first thought it was XD
Hahahah I am entertained by your use of “kiddlywink”! Also I used to get sick while reading in the car, but I seem to have gotten over it! I share your problem with commenting back on my blog. I am not good at it either :P
XD Glad to entertain you!
Yay for getting over motion sickness. I don’t think mine will ever go away *sigh*
And yikes, it’s hard to keep up with comments!
OH I DID NOT REALIZE THAT I WAS TAGGED. I SHALL BE YOUR MINION AND PROCEED TO DO THIS FOR WEDNESDAY. [Also, thanks so much for thinking of me!]
Loved reading your answers. I get motion sickness too, the smallest book I own is the tiny [unmatching] pocketbook edition of goblet of fire. and ummmmmmm who doesn’t smell their books?????
YAAAAAY! And no need to thank me, lovely <3
Boo @ motion sickness. Seriously. It ruins things.
And a pocket edition of The Goblet of Fire? How small IS it?
Right? You'd have to have problems not to love smelling your books ;)
Thanks so much for tagging me Chiara – I can’t wait to do my post for this :) I can’t read in the car either, but on trains/buses it can be alright for some reason. A Handful of Magic is something I haven’t read before but I hope to one day!
No problem, Eugenia! :D I look forward to reading your answers.
Yeah, my motion sickness isn’t as bad on the train, but I am still afraid to read on anything that moves, haha!
Oh yay! I hope you read it. I ADORED the series as a kid. :D
Nice, Chiara! I’m really surprised by some of your answers, simply because they weren’t what I anticipated, but? They totally make sense. I’m taken aback by the fact you haven’t read all the HP books, though. There would be such pressure-hype to reading them for the first time now, though, I can’t imagine how they could actually live up to the hype! I adore them, but hype is hype is hype and very rarely do things actually live up to it. xx
Oooo! Which answers surprised you? XD
Yeah, I’m a little wary of reading them AND they’d take up so much time, too. I kind of feel like I got what I needed from the story by watching the movies, eep.
Hmm… lets see. Well definitely the fact you haven’t read Harry Potter- I’d definitely recommnd investing the time, though it is a big series. The stories told are so much more detailed than the movies! Though I can understand not really feeling the need to invest that extra time.
Aah… and Vampires over Fairies and Werewolves over Spirits. And I wouldn’t have guessed Frankenstien was your favourite classic! I must read it! xx
I MAY read the HP books one day! I do own them all, so they’re definitely on my TBR! I just never really got around to them, haha.
I like fairies MUCH better than vampires, but I answered those questions in relation to books, I suppose. I prefer books with vampires over books with fairies because I feel like I haven’t really read an AMAZING book with fairies in it, you know? Although ACoTaR was pretty good (but I don’t really see those fae as traditional, though).
And it was hard to choose between werewolves and spirits! But one of my all time favourite books is about werewolves :D
And yes, you must! It’s absolutely amazing, Romi!
Ooo, I love these tags! So much fun.
I tried to read Shatter Me but couldn’t get through the first 50 or so pages. :( I might pick it up again but I just didn’t love it and couldn’t muscle through it. I still own it though!
Ugh, Frankenstein. I really enjoyed the last bits and when the monster is telling his story to Frankenstein, but it wasn’t THE BEST BOOK EVER for me even though I really wanted to love it. It was definitely enjoyable though! I think my favorite classic is probably White Fang by Jack London. So good. So fucking good.
LOL @ you using Breaking Dawn as a stool. I actually don’t own the Twilight books anymore which in a way makes me really sad. Even though I would never read them again I feel like they deserve a place on my shelf because they were among the first few books that made me love YA? Idk. Twilight is just a series you hate to love, but in a way I DO love the books. Just not in the way I love my other books.
I think I’ll always lean more towards action-packed books with a few love scenes in the middle. I love my books with STUFF happening. Romance is fun, but only if I’m specifically looking for a romance. I hate when I buy a fantasy/adventure book expecting ACTION and ADVENTURE and COOL STUFF and I just get obnoxious amounts of kissing and pining.
Right? And I am SO BAD at doing them. There are a whole heap that I haven’t done, and I feel bad and slacky because of it *hides*
Awh, no D: I can understand why it might not be to everyone’s taste. It’s definitely not written in your traditional novel layout.
I’m sad you didn’t LOVE Frankenstein. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, but something about it just completely captivated me. I haven’t read White Fang, which is horrible because I adored the kiddy movie version HAHA.
It’s large, and the perfect height to hold up my stuff XD I would never give them away, though. I loved them too much at the time I read them to ever give them up.
I really don’t mind! I mean, I love my romance, so I’ll just take it when it’s given to me ;)
OK, as someone who only just recently read all the Harry Potter books, you should seriously do it sometime!
I feel like I should, but I don’t know if I would ever get around to them!
TAHEREH MAFI’S WRITING HOLDS MY HEART, OKAY. It’s just so… heartwrenchingly beautiful with the crossed-out words and it’s as if we’re reading a whole new dimension of writing. (Full disclosure: I get so much of my poetic-style prose from her. Authors who influence my own writing are the best. *happy sigh*)
RIGHT? It’s just so gorgeous and beautiful. I heart it forever <3
