In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I have created Books for Life. I’ll talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys will like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

Today, I am going to talk about the shows that own my soul. I mean this quite literally. I spend more of my time watching TV shows than I do anything else (except reading). I get immersed in these fictional worlds, and fall in love with these fictional characters, and then am left out in the cold when it all ends. So – what are the shows that own my soul? Sit back, relax, and I shall tell you.

1. LOST

LOST
When I talk about LOST, I always say that it is not a TV show, it is a way of life. And legitimately, that is how I see this show. I have never felt so much for a show in my entire life. I was absorbed every single episode, every season was as amazing as the last, and the final episode had my balling me eyes out for an hour. Yes. This is a common occurrence in series finales.

The characters in this show are so vivid and imperfect – they are perfect because of their imperfections. I adore every single one of them. LOST really forces you to look outside yourself, and see how the world is interwoven, and how we all affect the lives of others, not just our own. I don’t think any show will ever replace this one.

2. Dawson’s Creek

emotional connection

My childhood in one place. Seriously. All through my childhood, we played the soundtrack of the first series in the car. Mum loves telling the story of driving me to school when I was five, and me jumping out singing: life’s a bitch and then you die. I was wise beyond my years, obviously.

I don’t think I could ever have a deeper emotional connection to a show as I have with Dawson’s. I always say that watching this show is like coming home. It’s comforting, and whenever I watch it, I feel like I am being welcomed into the arms of some loving relative (because I don’t actually have any of those in real life).

3. Merlin

woman
Ohmydearlord. I love this show to heaven and back. The feels, the scenery, the storyline. The epic bromance. The humour. The drama. The costumes. This show is pretty much perfection in my eyes. Again with the crying for an hour when the series finished. The way I love Merlin (the boy) is pretty unrivalled. I even have a whole Tumblr dedicated to this show. I love it. Muchly.

4. Supernatural

my boys
These boys have a seriously special place in my heart. I love them so much. I think one of the things I love most about this show is Dean’s protectiveness and love for Sammy. He is seriously willing to do anything for his brother. I cannot even imagine that kind of love. It’s heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. I cry about every second episode.

And who can forget my baby? My one true love?

There are other TV shows that I really, REALLY love, but these four here own my very soul. If you’re interested, the other shows I love with a fiery burning passion include: Veronica Mars, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Smallville, One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls, Sherlock, and Heartland. Of course, there are a whole bunch of other TV shows I watch and enjoy, but I wouldn’t say I love them.

So there you go. If you want to own my soul, all you have to do is give me these shows (although I already own them all – SORRY to disappoint, you soul stealers).

Feed my curiosity – are you like me? An obsessive show watcher? What are some of your favourites?

I love Merlin so much!!!! I wish it was back. That final episode was just…

  2. Charlotte says:

I watch way too many TV shows haha but I mainly watch comedy and with a few dramas sprinkled throughout.

Gah the cast of Merlin was great! The story got repetitive and didn’t do justice to them at times but the characters!!!

    • Chiara says:

YES. But watching TV shows is so much fun :D I mainly watch shows with an element of fantasy/supernatural/magic. I like the escape!
Yessss. I love Merlin so much, and the characters were amazing!

  3. numinousnnp says:

wow – so we have very, very similar tastes in tv shows. I loved the first season of Lost but will admit it lost some of its shine for me as it progressed, and then got some of it back (Daniel Farrady was such a fantastic addition) and then lost some of it again.

And Merlin is one of my top favorites as well. You said it all, the humor and drama and friendship and story was all just great.

Veronica Mars, Gilmore Girls, Sherlock, Sarah Connor! So few people watched Sarah Connor but it’s really good. I actually just watched some of the second season this past weekend.

Based on all this I can confidently say you should watch Battlestar Galactica. And the only reason I think you haven’t is that if you had, it would be on this list. It is seriously, seriously good tv.

    • Chiara says:

I loved every single season of LOST, to be honest. I know that most people feel like it waxed and waned on a few seasons but it’s perfection in my eyes ^.^
Yay! I never knew so many people liked Merlin. It’s such a beautiful show.
I KNOW. I am still devastated that it was cancelled after two seasons. It was SO fantastic.
I haven’t watched it, but it is now on the list. Thank you :D

  4. I watched Lost with my mom for quite awhile but it was always really confusing to me lol. It probably didn’t help that I missed episodes every now and then :P
My favorite TV shows are Parks and Recreation because I love the silly humor in that and The Mentalist =)

    • Chiara says:

Yes, LOST is definitely one of those shows where you simply cannot miss an episode!
I haven’t watched either of those, but I am willing to give them a go :D

  5. acps927 says:

Since you love Lost and Dawson’s Creek, you seriously need to watch Fringe. Abrams show + Joshua Jackson. I got super sucked into it over the months I watched it.

  6. I think I just fell in love with you a little! Both Dawson’s Creek and Lost were huge favorites of mine, too! I was very active on ABC’s discussion boards during the time Lost was airing, and I found some really amazing friends thanks to that show.

    I haven’t heard of Merlin… maybe it’s just not airing in Switzerland? That’s a little sad…

    • Chiara says:

      Haha, yay :D
Dawson’s Creek and LOST are both amazing shows and I love them to pieces. :D You have excellent taste!
You should try and watch Merlin, it is simply gorgeous.

  7. Kelly says:

Omg, Dawson’s Creek is making me so nostalgic! When I was a kid, I decided I would name my daughter a boy name because of Joey.

I LOVED Lost. But like one other commentor, the seasons were up and down for me. It’s on Netflix, so I find myself watching the odd episode, here or there, to see if I catch anything new – and I always do! Haha

Most recently, I’ve watched The Americans, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Breaking Bad – all of which I’d recommend!

    • Chiara says:

Ah, that’s so cute! And yes, Dawson’s has so many feels, right? Did you agree with who Joey ended up with?
Everyone seems to think LOST was a bit like a rollercoaster. But I watched them all in succession, and I think that’s different than watching them over time.
Thank you for the recs! I’ll look into them :D

  8. I’m a sucker for good tv shows! I love me some Supernatural! I actually just started watching it at the end of January and I’m on season 7 now. My husband loved Lost but I never really got into it. More of my favorites are The Walking Dead, Grey’s Anatomy, and Sons of Anarchy.

    • Chiara says:

      Aren’t we all? :D
Yes, Supernatural is a fantastic television show. Wow, you’re speeding through it!
I like Walking Dad and Grey’s Anatomy, as well. I think they’re very good shows!

  9. Cee says:

I, THE ULTIMATE BEING, OWN YOUR SOUUULLLLL.

LOST was my everything when it was airing. That was such a great period. Nothing could ever compare to the awesomeness of it. It brought so many wonderful lines like “NOT PENNY’S BOAT.” GAHHHHH. I was sooo fascinated by the theories that people came up with. (btw Juliet/Sawyer were my everything!)

I watched Merlin too, but I wasn’t in love with Merlin or Arthur. It was all about Gwen for me. She was the ray of sunlight on that show for me. (I know I speak blasphemy, but not really. LADIES FTW!)

Teen Wolf is a show you have to watch because it is AMAZING. Shirtless boys, Chiara! Eye candy! GET ON IT.

    • Chiara says:

YES, YOU DO OH CEELEM THE GREAT. But to be honest, I wrote this post BEFORE I legally handed my soul over to you.
OHMYGOSH. This is why we are friends, Ceelem. Because you have amazing taste in everything. Seriously. YES. There will never be another show like LOST. It’s too amazing. NO, CHARLIE MY BABY.
Kate and jack were MY everything. I cannot even <3
EW NO GWEN NO. I don't even really like Gwen. It was ALL Merthur for me. ALL MERTHUR.
I have watched Teen Wolf, and I do so like it very much! Derek = much drool on this girl's behalf.

  10. Lost was one of those shows I wanted to watch when it was on, but never could get into it. Now that I know most of the spoilers I’m not too inclined to watch it. Yay for Merlin! Though I’m still stuck on season 3 (have been for over a year) and hopefully I’ll finally finish watching it this year. I loved Supernatural for the first 2 or 3 seasons then stopped watching.

As for my own personal favorites? I love Twisted, Mad Men, and The Americans.

    • Chiara says:

I think LOST does lose a little magic because of spoilers but I watched it thinking I knew the ending because of a spoiler and it turned out that person was wrong. It may be the same for you!
Merlin is so asdfghjkl. I love that show. Season five is beautiful; so I urge you to keep watching!
I think you should give Supernatural another go – at leas until you meet Castiel. He’s my favourite character and he comes in at season four, I think.

I love Twisted, too! :D I forgot to mention it in my list. I haven’t watched your other shows, but will give them a try :D
