books-for-life

In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

Can you believe it’s already 2017? I kind of can’t, to be honest. As I did every month of 2016 I have my reading challenge updates of December, which will be my final overall update because the year is OVER :O So, how did I do? Well, pretty great, actually!

goodreads challenge – 150 books – complete at 180

I kind of can’t believe I read 180 books in 2016! That is the largest number of books I’ve read in any year before, which is all kinds of amazing. I wonder if I’d be able to name them all. Probably not *laughs* BUT YAY FOR COMPLETING THIS CHALLENGE!

lgbtqia+ challenge – 41-50 books – complete at 68

I read 68 LGBTQIA+ books this year! That’s more than one a month, and I am so, so proud of that number. I didn’t get around to reviewing every single title, but the number of books I did review for this challenge was a total of 36 so I only just missed out on hitting my challenge range in terms of reviews. That sucks a bit but 36 reviews is something I’m still proud of!

indie lgbtqia+ challenge – 1 book per month – 11/12 months

I read 10 indie LGBTQIA+ books in December – thank you Christmas novellas! As for the year as a whole, there was only one month where I didn’t read an indie LGBTQIA+ book, but there were also a lot of months where I read a lot more than one title (e.g. December), so all in all I think I did pretty fantastically with this one!

  1. Congrats on the Goodreads Challenge! That’s an impressive amount of books!

I somehow surpassed my Goodreads Challenge. I really didn’t think I would be reading as much this year given the change in my school->work schedule but I surprised myself! We’ll see about this year, I kept it the same at 175…

  2. WOWOWOW 180 BOOKS IS SO MANY. I read 100 this year, which is pretty good and I’m proud of myself for doing so, buuuuut I read 203 in 2014 so I was still a tiny bit disappointed that I hadn’t read more this year!

Also, yay for LGBTQ+ Christmas novellas! If you’re open to reading older works, I highly recommend The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith (which was adapted into the movie Carol), which was published in the 1950s and is about two lesbians falling in love at Christmastime/New Year’s. It was the first novel to give LGBTQ+ a happy ending instead of killing them off and it’s one of my all-time favorites! :D

I KNOW. I kind of can’t believe it? That’s the most books I’ve ever read in one year. I think 100 is fab! That’s more than two books a week, so you should definitely be proud. Holy dooly 203 is INCREDIBLE. I’ve set my Goodreads challenge to 200 this year but I don’t actually think I’ll complete it, haha.

All the yay! It made my Christmas 100% better. Oh, goodness, I actually watched Carol and ADORED it so I am so excited to read the story it’s based off! I loved the fact that they ended up together – it made me so happy :D

  3. It sounds like you did so beautifully with your challenges this year, Chiara – all of my congratulations, & I am infinitely proud of you! Are you taking part in any challenges in the New Year? If so, I truly cannot wait to hear which ones & see your progress through 2017… & if not, I have no doubt that you will introduce me to a great many lovely reads this year, as always. Happy New Year. <3

    • Chiara says:

Thank you, lovely <3 I haven't actually decided if I'm going to formally participate in any challenges this year (other than the obvious Goodreads one). I do have a post coming up about my reading plans for the year, though! I hope I do ^.^ Happy New Year to you, as well *hug*

  4. Rachana says:

Congrats on completing all your reading challenges! 180 books is an impressive number of books read in a year! The only reading challenge I took part in last year was the Goodreads reading challenge. My goal was 200 books and I only read 99. I’m not too disappointed because I know realistically speaking that as I get older, I’ll get busier. Anyway, I’ve set a more realistic goal of 125 books this year :D

    • Chiara says:

Thank you so much! I never expected to read 180 books this year, so I am kind of blown away. I think reading 99 books is fantastic, and I hope you can complete 125 this year, Rachana!
