Simply Sunday is a reading meme run here at Books for a Delicate Eternity. It’s where you can share your favourite quote of the week; be it from a book, a novella, a short story, a poem – whatever you like!

My Simple Thing:

“Making a decision isn’t about knowing every potential consequence. It’s about knowing what you want and chasing a path that takes you in that direction.”

A quote from Malinda Lo (Huntress).

Why I Chose It:

I really, really loved this book. For heaps of reasons, like the fact that it is an f/f romance, it is a queer fantasy, and that it is a standalone fantasy. And also the fact that there are so many beautiful quotes. This was a really delightful book on so many levels, and I wish I had been able to keep track of all the beautiful passages I came across when reading. Alas, it was a library book, and I was too immersed in the story to take breaks to right down quotes.

But this one was a passage that I really liked. I like the vibe it gives off, and the advice it gives – not only to the character it is given to, but also to readers. I think sometimes the possible consequences of actions and decisions can get so messy in our minds that we shy away from these decisions. So I like that this is all: go for it – see where it takes you first, and then face the consequences (if there even are any). divWhat do you think of my Simply Sunday? Have you read any quotes you’ve loved recently?

I had a similar experience when I read Ash- I knew there were so many gorgeous, gorgeous quotes and feelings and just this sense of everything being so wonderful and true for me, but I was far too content and captivated to take note of it all. I definitely plan on reading it again (and am so keen, if you decide to give it a retry, to see how a second read fairs for you), but I’m not going to kid myself. I have no intention of grabbing a pen and underlining and remembering all the beauty, because there’s so much and I can look at the book and point and say THE WHOLE THING. And I’m just so keen on Huntress, now, because of the way you feel about this quote and the way you feel about it and JUST YES. PLAIN YES. xx

I am really excited to read Ash again because how could I love Huntress so much and have not so great feeling on its predecessor? I never underline things, which is one of the few things I prefer about ebooks, because I can quickly highlight a gorgeous line or passage and continue reading.

I WANT YOU READ THIS BOOK ASAP PLEASE

  2. The quote is gorgeous, Chiara, and just because you mentioned f/f plus fantasy and stand-alone, I added the book to my TBR shelf before finishing reading that you also love the writing, plus that there are many quotable quotes here.
    Thanks for sharing :)

    • Chiara says:

Oh, yay! I’m so glad you’ve added it to your TBR, Lexxie. I hope you like it as much as I did when you get around to reading it!

      No problem ^.^

  3. I’ve been watching a lot of Teen Wolf this week (such a lovely, feel-good show for the nights when one’s head is running in circles & the dark seems too large to overcome). There are so many beautiful quotes there, especially those with Allison. One of my favourites, when Scott says, with the best intentions, “I just don’t want you to get hurt” – she looks him straight in the eye, raises her bow & arrow, and says “I can protect myself”.

    You go, Allison. You go.

    • Chiara says:

I need to get back to watching that! I devoured the first season in a weekend but never continued because of the delayed Australian release. You’ve reminded my why I liked it so much :D

  4. Very lovely quote – and so true! This is one I still need to read. I don’t read a ton of fantasy, but I like that it’s a standalone and that it’s f/f of course. :)

Anddddd now that’s automatically added to my TBR. Thank you for that.

That quote is so spot on and relatable. I feel like I often think about ALL the consequences, because I NEED to plan out everything in my life. Or else I get nervous. I’m trying to be more spontaneous, or at least I’m working on it. Because in the end, everything does end up working out!

    • Chiara says:

      YESSSS.

Oh, I am very much a planned person, too. I like to know when I’m going to do something, and how. But introducing some spontaneity can be fun!
