Five movies

I watch a lot of movies, and some of them are perfect for particular occasions. So I thought: why the hell not share these perfect movies for their perfect occasions? And here I am. Maybe when you’re experiencing one of these occasions, you’ll know what movie to watch!

when you want to cry your eyes out

merlin crying

(found)

The Time Traveller’s Wife. Like, holy dooly. If you need to cry, then this is the movie to do it.

Example: my heart had just been broken, and I wanted to cry, but I didn’t particularly want to cry over my own situation, so I put in The Time Traveller’s Wife, and balled my eyes out. Mission = accomplished.

when you need a feel good pick-me-up

happy

(found)

Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. Seriously. Don’t diss it before you’ve tried it. This movie is the best movie to feel better about everything in life because it’s adorable and cheesy and just downright cute.

Example: there are FAR too many, because I watch this movie whenever I feel like shit.

when you need to believe in love again

THE HAND

(source)

JFC, seriously. Pride and Prejudice (2005) is the movie for when you need your romance fix. I mean, it’s the DEFINITION of slow burn, and if you haven’t seen this movie, what have you been doing with your life?

Example: every time it rains. GODDAMN this movie is perfect when it’s raining.

when you need to laugh

groot

(source)

Guardians of the Galaxy makes me laugh a ridiculous amount. Groot is especially laugh inducing because he’s the cutest freaking thing in the entire universe.

Example: like, last week, when everything was feeling quite crappy.

when you want to watch an animated movie

howl's

(source)

Howl’s Moving Castle is perfect, because it has beautiful childlike elements to it, but it is also an incredibly mature story about love and magic and everything in between.

Example: on a regular basis for the last ten years.

bonus! when you want a bit of everything

love actually

(source)

Love, Actually would probably have to be one of the most PERFECT movies made in history. It makes you laugh, and cry, and believe in love, and feel festive, and just ASDFGHJKL. This. Freaking. Movie.

Example: EVERY DARN CHRISTMAS, YO

And there you have it! These are pretty much all my favourite movies up there (although a few are missing). If you’ve seen them, let me know what you think! (But don’t diss because these are my faves.)

What are some movies you watch on particular occasions?

Ahh yes Love, Actually and Pride and Prejudice just makes me feel a lot of things. ??

  2. Shannelle says:

I have not watched any of these, so I’ll keep them in mind for when I’m in a certain mood. Especially Pride and Prejudice!

  3. Maraia says:

Hah, Win a Date with Tad Hamilton is a great movie. I actually re-watched it recently. Pride & Prejudice is one of my favorites, and I love the soundtrack. I’ve only seen Howl’s Moving Castle once, but I’ve been wanting to see it again. Spirited Away is my favorite Miyazaki movie, though. I think 10 Things I Hate About You is another good pick-me-up movie. I also like The Holiday, which would work for needing to believe in love again.

    • Chiara says:

Right? I absolutely love it :D

The P&P soundtrack is perfection, and I actually know it off by heart, haha!

Howl’s is gorgeous, and it ties with Princess Mononoke with as my face Ghibli movie. And then Spirited Away is third!

OH, I totally forgot about Ten Things I Hate About You! I adore that movie <3

Every time I try and rent a copy of The Holiday someone's got it out already D:

      • Maraia says:

Princess Mononoke is a very close second to Spirited Away, and only because that was the first one of his I ever saw. There’s another one that has an amazing soundtrack, but I’m completely blanking on what it’s called right now, haha. Really I’ve loved all of the ones I’ve seen. :)

  4. Pride and Prejudice and Howl’s Moving Castle are two of my favorite movies EVER! I also like Love, Actually — the little boy is THE BEST. All of Studio Ghibli’s movies are not just fabulous animated films, but fabulous films in general! I’m actually currently in the middle of a Studio Ghibli marathon — I’m watching all the movies in order of their release dates, and man oh man, I forgot how good some of them are! As for a movie that will make you laugh, I highly recommend The Birdcage with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane. They play a gay couple that run and star in a drag club. It’s one of my favorite movies and I’ve watched it probably a hundred times (no, really, I’ve watched it so much). YOU WILL DIE LAUGHING. At least, I certainly do. ;)

    • Chiara says:

Me, too! The movies on this list are some of my all time favourite movies ^.^

Ghibli is the greatest, right? I really want to go through and watch them all again (including the few I haven’t seen)!

Oh, I have not heard of The Birdcage! But I will try and see if I can find a copy to watch! Thank you for the rec, lovely <3

  5. I LOVE Pride and Prejudice. That movie makes me so happy and giddy. Howl’s Moving Castle, and Guardians of the Galaxy are amazing. Haven’t seen those other too movies but I definitely want to now!

    • Chiara says:

I think most everyone loves that movie, as it is so perfect *heart eyes* Howl’s and GotG are definitely amazing :D And you should watch the others – they’re all great!

  6. Beth W says:

Love, Actually is definitely my go-to Christmas movie. I watch The Princess Bride when I need a pick-me-up…and have for the past 25 years!

  7. So many beautiful movies you’ve listed here Chiara! Guardians of the Galaxy is probably my favourite one here, although P&P definitely has a special place in my heart <3

  8. acps927 says:

Pride and Prejudice is one of my all time faaaaves! And I agree, what movie could possibly be better for making you believe in love again? !

  9. Romi says:

Love Actually = Every christmas. We should totally skype and watch it on our respective laptops together. *nods* I’ve had the LA tradition for two years now, but… this year I’ll be the only one wanting to watch it. *sobs*
Howls Moving Castle. Another reason to watch that? Because damn, Howl is lovely. And that’s not usually something I would admit to with such wording.
Pride and Prejudice- right. I love that movie to bits, and when it next rains I am THERE. Matthew is the most lovely Darcy of ever.
    Groot! Must watch GotG.
Endless hugs to you for your reasoning with The Time Travellers Wife. If that’s actually relevant to now, I’m really super sorry, lovely. To make you laugh, I’ll say that I don’t have such a good relationship with the movie because I watched it with my brother. End of story.

    • Chiara says:

You were definitely not the only one watching it this Christmas because we watched it together :D *dances*

Howl is perfection, especially since Christian Bale is the voice actor for him *swoons*

I wish we could make it rain because then we could Skype the shit outta P&P and it would be lovely.

HOW have you not seen GotG? :O :O :O

Oh no, that was a reference to quite a while ago! I’m not even sure I’ve watched it since, haha. OH NO.
