Books I’ve Preordered
Books for Life is where I share bookish lists, recommendations, and favourites. You can also catch me talking about non-bookish things here, as well as my life outside of blogging. Today I’m talking about…
books i’ve preordered
Over the last few months I’ve placed quite a few preorders and I thought I’d share them here because a) it makes me excited about them all over again, and b) you might discover a new read! So, without further ado, here are the books I currently have preordered:
Star-Touched Stories by Roshani Chokshi
Why: I adored The Star-Touched Queen, A Crown of Wishes, and Death and Night and I am so excited for more stories set in the Star-Touched world. I am particularly excited for the novella about Aasha because I read her as queer coded and Roshani confirmed this when I asked her about it :D
Moonstruck by Grace Ellis and Shae Beagle
Why: Well, I mentioned it in this post about diverse comics I want to read, and when I looked it up it was only about $11 on The Book Depository. The art looks gorgeous, and it’s about queer girls of colour who also seem to be shapeshifters. HELL. YES.
Prince & Knight by Daniel Haack (illustrated by Stevie Lewis)
Why: DO I EVEN NEED TO TELL YOU WHY I NEED THIS QUEER PICTURE BOOK IN MY LIFE? I have a bit of a passion for queer kid lit – especially picture books – so I want to support them as much as I can. Also, this just looks so freaking adorable I cannot even.
The Library of Fates by Aditi Khorana
Why: a) that cover, b) it sounds really awesome, and c) I read a guest post from the author about the inspiration for the book and I loved it. You can read the interview here. Also, it looks to be standalone fantasy and lord knows we need more of those in YA.
Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh
Why: QUEER OWNVOICES DARK FANTASY. ME = GIVEN LIFE BY THIS. But Chiara, you might say, Reign of the Fallen has already been published. Ah yes, I would reply, but for some reason Aussie bookstores won’t get it until February 15 so it is still a (painful) preorder for me. Cue silent, cascading tears.
Ruin of Stars by Linsey Miller (no cover yet hence the Mask of Shadows cover but it’s pretty to look at so no complaining)
Why: Because I loved Mask of Shadows, that is why! Sal is the most precious genderfluid thief-assassin in the world (I mean, Sal may be the only genderfluid thief-assassin in the world but that doesn’t take away from the sentiment dammit) and I need to know where the story goes. I hope everything turns out okay for my baby.
All Out: The No-Longer Secret Stories of Queer Teens Throughout the Ages edited by Saundra Mitchell
Why: I mean. Queer teens. Throughout the ages. So MANY of my favourite authors. RETELLINGS. I mean. It’s got my name written all over it.
A Good Idea by Cristina Moracho
Why: Queer mystery/thriller! Finally! This! Is! Getting! A! Paperback! Release! And you bet your name (do people bet their names? Why did I write NAME?) I preordered when I saw it. I need it. NEED IT. A BI GIRL AT THE HELM OF ONE OF MY FAVE GENRES. B L E S S.
Fence (combined issues #1-5) by C.S. Pacat
Why: 1) C.S. Pacat. 2) I need everything Fence related. 3) Queer comic about fencing.
The Prince and the Dressmaker by Jen Wang
Why: Just look at it. From the sounds of it this little book is going to defy gender roles. I live and breathe for that shit. It’s also about fashion and I love clothes so *dances*
Have you got any of these on preorder or your TBR? What book/s do you have on preorder? What book/s would you like to preorder?
Such a great list! I love pre ordering. It is like your own gift somewhere down the year. :D I’m getting Reign of the Fallen today! Moonstruck sounds great and The Prince and the Dressmaker looks so cute.
Thank you! And I totally agree :D Especially when you kind of forget what you’ve preordered or when they come out and there’s surprise book mail! I hope we both like Reign of the Fallen, then ^.^ Yes, I am super excited for both of them!
YES, I NEED MORE standalone fantasies!!! Haha. That cover tho IS a gorgeous one. I’ve also been intrigued by Reign of the Fallen and Mask of Shadows! I am sorry you do not get RotF until February D: Luckily, it’s right around the corner – I can’t believe tomorrow is the last day of January!
Right? They make me so happy because I don’t have to add another book to my “incomplete series” shelf on GR, haha. I can tell you that mask of Shadows is brilliant! And I’ve heard nothing but great things about Reign of the Fallen so I am super keen. This year is going to go by so fast, I can just tell D:
Star Touched Stories?! That’s a thing?! How did I miss this? I’ll be preordering this one, as well – thanks so much for letting me know about it!
Yes!! It was announced late last year and I am so excited :D It has four novellas set in the same world and I cannot wait to read it. Glad to have let you know about it, Kelly!
So many beautiful covers, Chiara! The only one I heard of is Roshani Chokshi’s short stories. I have her two novels related to mythology and romance, but I have not read them yet. Because for some reason, I am really intimidated by her writing. A lot of people say it’s very flowery. I like flowery. But just…how flowery is very flowery?
*Ponders*
These are some particularly pretty books, I must say. The writing in The Star-Touched Queen did take some getting used to, but once I was in the flow of the book I was fine with it. A Crown of Wishes is less flowery, and you don’t necessarily have to have read TSTQ beforehand so maybe try that one? <3
Oh, I ADORED The Prince and the Dressmaker so I really hope you love it too. I also want to read Fences, All Out, and that picture book Prince and Knight which I’ve never heard of but I LOVE picture books with LGBT+ characters.
-Lauren
Yay! I hope I love it, too. It looks so gorgeous. I’ve only read the first issue of Fence so far and I did really like it! I have to catch up to the other issues now, haha. I love queer picture books as well, which is why I could not resist Prince & Knight!
This post makes me so happy! I don’t participate in a lot of pre-ordering for books since I can barely stay on top of all the old books I’ve already got sitting around my house… But I love the idea of pre-ordering so that fun book mail shows up sorta out of the blue! What inspires you to preorder?
There are so many amazing books on this list. The Prince and the Dressmaker, Moonstruck, and Prince & Knight all sound WONDERFUL. you’re right– we need a LOT more children queer lit. Plus, standalone YA fantasy?! Those are like rare magical unicorns! I hope you find that you love alllll of these books.
Yay! I totally get what you mean, Jackie. I hardly ever preordered before I started blogging (I didn’t even know it was a thing, haha!) but now I really love it. I’m inspired to preorder books to show the publisher there’s a market for the books they’re selling! I know that preordering can help a book get on the NYT bestseller list, but for me I just want to support the author more than anything :)
I’m glad you like the sound of them! I should probably do a post of what I thought of all these books once they have arrived :) Thank you!! I hope I love them, too :D
Wow you preordered so many good books! I’m especially excited for Reign of the Fallen & Mask of Shadows! And I’ve heard good things about The Library of Fates, so I’ll definitely need to pick it up soon. Thanks for sharing!
I think so, too :D Mask of Shadows was brilliant and one of my favourite reads of 2017 so I hope you like it if you get around to reading it, Amanda :D Library of Fates looks AMAZING so I’m super keen to finally have it in my hands. My pleasure! Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts ^.^
