books-for-life

Books for Life is where I share bookish lists, recommendations, and favourites. You can also catch me talking about non-bookish things here, as well as my life outside of blogging. Today I’m talking about…

books i own and should have read by now

There are some books that I own and (inevitably) haven’t read. But these aren’t just random books I’ve bought and haven’t gotten around to. These are books I 100% should have read by now because they’re by a favourite author, or they sound perfect, or they’re in a series I love. So to bask in my shame, let me share with you some books I own and totally should have read by now.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

WHY? I have two copies of this book and it’s still unread. I absolutely adored Lu’s Legend trilogy, so when I found out about her back-then-new series I was so excited. It sounded badass! EXCITEMENT. Yeah, well, look where that excitement’s got me.

Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh

From the moment I heard about this book I was keen. A dark, queer YA fantasy? With that hella awesome cover? Count me in. I even preordered this book! And now… it’s just sitting on my shelf. Albeit prettily.

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

#ownvoices contemporary about a trans girl! With a trans girl model on the cover! GROUNDBREAKING! And unread. :(

More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

History Is All You Left Me and They Both Die at the End are some of my favourite books. They were both five star reads, and they both left me broken!! So why haven’t I picked up Silvera’s debut novel?

Dawn Study by Maria V. Snyder

The conclusion to the Study series. And my damn face is on that Fan Study cover! What is wrong with me? I guess I don’t really want the series to end? I mean, when it was a trilogy it was sad to finish. Then we got the extra three books! And now it’ll be finished again, and there won’t be any more Valek.

Now I Rise by Kiersten White

And I Darken was pretty much my favourite book of 2016? I bought Now I Rise the second I saw it in store. I actually did a happy dance when I picked it up. How could I have not read it by now? I guess I can binge the whole trilogy now that Bright We Burn is coming out? Excuses, excuses.div

What are some books you can’t believe you haven’t read? Share the shame.

  1. Oh gosh, I own so many books I still need to actually read…like They Both Die at the End. LOL I loved Adam’s first two though, and More Happy Than Not is awesome! I hope you love it when you do get to it. I still want to read And I Darken; I don’t own it, but it’s been on my to-read list for awhile.

Lauren! You should definitely read They Both Die at the End! It’s sad and beautiful, and was one of my favourite reads last year. I really hope I like More Happy Than Not, as well! I think I will, considering both of Silvera’s other novels have been five star reads. And I Darken is definitely worth the wait so don’t feel too bad :)

  2. I can’t believe I haven’t read the Study series! It sounds like my type of series and I know for sure it will be a favorite of mine. Same with The Young Elites!

    • Chiara says:

Ah, Tasya! I absolutely adore the Study series so I am pushing you to read it right now, haha. It is honestly SO good and it’s a staple YA fantasy :D I hope we both like The Young Elites!!

Share the shame had me laughing out loud. The most prominent one is probably Gemina. I loved Illuminae but wasn’t keen on reading more of the same and also, the books are so damn heavy.

I read a lot of books but people are always surprised by the ones I haven’t read. Six of Crows, I haven’t read anything by Victoria Schwab, Becky Chambers, I haven’t even read The Book Theif. I clearly need to sit in the corner and self reflect.

    • Chiara says:

I’m glad to have brought you some laughter, Kell! <3 I have heard that some people lost their love for the Illuminae series after the first book. I honestly don't know if I'll ever muster up the will to start it. Eep.

I haven't read Six of Crows, either! I think all the hype around it scares me. I really do recommend Schwab, though. I thoroughly enjoy everything she writes! And The Book Thief is beautiful, but the movie has the same sentiment to be quite honest with you, haha.

      • Kelly says:

For a reader looking to read Schwab for the first time, what book.would you recommend starting with? I bought the collectors edition of A Darker Shade of Magic a few months ago but wasn’t sure if all her series are linked.

        • Chiara says:

Her series aren’t linked at all! To be honest, I love all her books equally (except Conjuring of Light, which is my favourite, but that’s the third Shades of Magic book!). Personally, I started with Vicious, then read This Savage Song, then the Shades of Magic series and that worked for me! But I think if you’ve got ADSOM then why not start with that one? :D

  4. I haven’t read Dawn Study either! I haven’t even bought it (or any of the new study books) yet! WHAT IS WRONG WITH US

  5. OMG I adore More Happy Than Not and I think you will too! That book was definitely a surprise. I have had The Young Elites on my shelf for a long time too and haven’t read it either.

    • Chiara says:

I am pretty sure I’ll love it because Silvera is a favourite author! I just don’t know why I haven’t gotten to it yet D: We could buddy read TYE one day, Jeann!
