Questions and Answers
Back in September, the lovely Lauren from Lets Get Beyond Tolerance nominated me for the Liebster Award! In true award fashion, here I am two months later, finally answering the questions given to me. It’ll never change, obviously.
Anyway, there are some rules for this award, and they are as follows:
Rules:
- Thank and follow the blog that nominated you
- Answer the 11 questions set for you
- Nominate 5-11 bloggers and set questions for them
- Give them 11 questions to answer
- Write the rules in your post
- Let your nominees know you’ve nominated them
1. How do you feel about book series?
I can both love and hate series. If I read a book that’s amazing and I love it endlessly, chances are I will want to read more in that world, and therefore would be entirely happy with it being the first in a series. But if I read a mediocre book, and find out that it’s the first in a series, and have some modicum of interest in the outcome then I’ll be annoyed that it’s a series.
2. Do you remember the first book you ever read on your own?
I actually do! I was in the first grade, and it was a little picture book about a frog jumping around.
3. Do you read classic books for fun?
Yep! I read The Secret Garden at the beginning of the year just because I wanted to.
4. How do you feel about translated novels?
They’re great! I haven’t really read any, but I think if an awesome book can make it beyond the shores of their author then that’s pretty amazing.
5. Do you have any auto-buy authors?
I do, I do. I will buy anything that Erica Crouch writes, as well as Maria V. Snyder. There are other authors that I really love and adore, but these two are the only ones that I know I would buy anything that they released.
6. Do you buy books as presents? And if you do, are they usually books you’ve read or not?
I do! I usually ask for a wishlist, but if it’s not that kind of present giving then I usually give them something that I have read and loved. So I can share the amazing books.
7. Do you read graphic novels?
Why, yes. I prefer manga, but I just really got into graphic novels this year. They’re nice to read when you only have a little bit of time free, or if you’re not sure what to read next but you want to read something.
8. What author(s) would you love to meet, dead or alive?
I have actually met almost all of my favourite authors (and some of them numerous times). Although I would really love to meet Erica Crouch, just so I could flail over Azael with her. And meeting Elliot Wake would be incredible.
9. What book would you like to see made into a TV show or film?
Oh, if I love a book I definitely don’t want to see it made into a TV show or film because so often adaptations are shitty.
10. If you could read more books set in a certain country or state, which one would it be and why?
Australia! Because I live here, and there are not enough YA novels set in the land down under.
11. Do you want to write a novel? Or are you happy to just read them?
I have written two and a third novels (look at me, trying to get cred for 20K words), so I am definitely not happy just reading them! I want to be a published author one day. *crosses fingers*
My nominees: Mitchii, Romi, Marianne & Jennifer, and Jo. :D
Your questions are:
- You can tame one wild animal. What animal do you tame?
- If you could transport yourself anywhere this weekend where would it be?
- What are your three favourite books of 2016 so far?
- You are given $1000 to spend in one hour. What do you spend it on?
- If you could go on a dinner date with anyone (living or dead) who would you choose?
- Hobbit, elf, dwarf, or orc?
- What would be the title of the movie made about your life?
- You can only smell one thing for the rest of your days. What smell would you pick?
- Do you prefer to watch movies in the cinema or wait until you can watch it at home?
- If you could give a seminar on any topic what would you choose?
- What 2017 book release are you really excited for?
I had so much fun reading this! I agree with your opinion about series, if I like the first book, then I’m going to be excited. But if the first book is just meh, I just can’t belive there will be a sequel for it :D The first book I read on my own is also a children book! Mine is the Tale of Peter Rabbit though! (and I still have the book until now xD)
Awh, I’m glad! Series are so difficult, right? And I never know if I want to continue them if I kind of enjoyed the first one! Ohmygosh, The Tale of Peter Rabbit is such a gorgeous first book to have read :D
Such a lovely post, Chiara! I’m so with you on not wanting favourite books to be adapted for the screen – I have been burned far too many times before (she said, having horrific flashbacks to Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief). And I can 100% relate with the love-hate relationship with series; I cannot stand to leave a series unfinished even if the first book was very bleh, which means I usually tend to bitterly grumble through the rest of the series, haha ;)
Thank you, lovely *heart* Adaptations really do terrify me, so instead of excitement I am filled with trepidation when i hear of them >.< Ohhh, I feel for you, Topaz. I ditch series very easily because I just don't have time for shitty ones!
Eeep, I agree! MORE AUSSIE NOVELS. I’d like to see more Aussie fantasy, actually. I mean, why can’t we have Australian dragons??? *stamps foot* I have needs here.
Omg and I’m the same with adaptions. Every time I hear of my favourite book being adapted I basically CRY. Did you know they’re doing The Scorpio Races? I’m absolutely freaking terrified. If they mangle and ruin it I SHALL CRY FOREVER.
And I love how you said 2 and a third novels. ;) YES! Take credit for all the words. And I hope I get to buy your book someday!!
Do we even really HAVE Aussie YA fantasy? :O I mean, I can think of a few paranormal ones, but straight up fantasy … we do need more.
I haven’t read The Scorpio Races, but I don’t think any adaptation can do Queen Stiefvater justice.
I hope we both get to read each other’s :D
I definitely agree that there should be more Aussie books out there! Jackie French is a favourite of mine, along with all the brilliant #LoveOzYA out there, but there’s always room for more on my TBR (or so I tell myself…). The Secret Garden is a beautiful classic – I remember studying it when I was in my younger years of high school, but it might be time for a re-read. Thanks for sharing a lovely post Chiara :)
Right? I mean, I know I should look for them more intensely than I do, but I feel like I shouldn’t HAVE to look for them. I hope we can just see a lot of them on the shelves one day! Ah, The Secret Garden is so lovely <3 There's a really beautiful copy for cheap on Booktopia right now! Thank you, and no problem <3
Aawww. First books are so special, and I’m glad you have that memory of reading your first readalone! I do, too – I still have the book, in storage – and it makes me so happy (and proud, still) to think of it, and how happy I was with the achievement, and what it’s led to for each and every day of my life since. Books are so incredibly important to me, every single day they are so important, and I’m so happy I had the chance to learn to read.
Hurrah for graphic novels and manga! *lets a few balloons fly into the air* I’m quite a bit slower at the reading of both than you, I believe, but I agree that they can be so great to take a step back from books, or use them while you’re not sure what you want to read next, or (and this is my personal favourite) to just flat out binge a series.
Thank you for the tag! I may (because who even knows if I will) tell you my answers in text one day. x
Chiara, you can totally use that 20k as a third of a novel (unless it turns into a sprawling multi-thousand word masterpiece of massive length, in which case this would be, like, a fifth or something), because a c c o m p l i s h m e n t and accomplishments are accomplishments and they are fab.
I mean, it could have been a different book, but that’s the first one I remember reading at school, haha. My frog jumping book must have been pretty amazing to spark my love of reading XD
Graphic novels and manga are everything. I’m so glad to have discovered graphic novels this year, because they’re quite different to manga, but still have some of the same elements, which makes them fantastic.
You should DO IT.
I own that 20K. And my novels tend to peak at around 60K, although at this point (20K), the love interest and MC haven’t even KISSED, WHICH IS UNHEARD OF FOR ME. So who knows.
