5-reasons

Five Reasons To is basically my way of convincing you to love the same things I do. Because I love a lot of things for a lot of reasons. Hopefully my powers of persuasion will work their magic on you, and you can find new things to love!

Today, I am going to give you five reasons to:

Watch The X-Files

1. Fox Mulder

I’ve only watched five out of the ten seasons of The X-Files, and already it’s become one of my favourite TV shows. On top of that, Agent Mulder has become one of my favourite characters of all time. Which is no small feat, by the way. I only have, like, three super favourite TV show characters, and Mulder has made his way on to that list (making it four now).

He is precious. Literally everything about him is loveable. From his flouffy hair to his vulnerability to his staunch willingness to do anything for the truth to his love for Scully. I literally adore everything about him. Especially his face. I mean, look at it.

2. Dana Scully

Now, I don’t love Scully like I love Mulder (IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE LBR), but I really do like her character. While a lot of the time I think she could be both more sympathetic and empathetic, I also like her badassery, too. The way she faces sexism from colleagues and officials is A+, and I want to be as headstrong and awesome as she is one day.

3. Sculder/Mully

I shipped these two from the first episode, and then my shipping feels kind of waned a little. Which is weird, because I love me some shipping. But Mulder and Scully are soulmates – they don’t need to be in a romantic relationship for their connection to be stronger than anything. I love how much they love each other, and how they care for each other. And when Scully takes care of Mulder (see above GIF) my heart ACHES. I’ll be interested to see if I love them together as much as I love them as they are right now. I probably will, but there is something so incredibly special about their connection, regardless of the ship.

4. The Storylines

Why did I pick that GIF for this point? Because there is no reason, except that bisexual Mulder is 100% real, and look at these two. *SQUEALING*

Anyway, the storylines are ace. To be honest, the first two episodes are kind of TERRIBLE, but if you push through them, the show just gets better and better. There is an overarching storyline of aliens + government seediness and secrecy, but there is so much more to The X-Files than aliens (which is funny because when I started watching it I thought it was going to be about aliens EVERY EPISODE, haha). There have been some beautifully special and poignant episodes, too.

5. The Theme Song

I know this isn’t really a great reason, but take a listen to that iconic theme song. I watch two episodes of The X-Files every day, and I never skip the theme. I hum along to that shit four times a day (because I listen to it in the closing credits, too ;D). It’s so catchy, and I really think that it is the perfect theme song for this show.

So these are five reasons for you to watch The X-Files! If you haven’t watched it, are you keen? If you have, do you have any other reasons why people should?

Ta ta for now,

  1. Tasya says:

I don’t really watch X Files like continuously, but I’ve seen some episodes here and there. I really love the plot and the atmosphere, and I also ship Scully and Murder! The connection they have is really rare, and I just love seeing their interaction :D

    • Chiara says:

You should totally watch it from the beginning, Tasya! It is 100% worth it – I promise :D I absolutely love Mulder and Scully’s relationship, and their connection is just so strong and beautiful. I’m glad you see it the same way :D

  2. Wait, is Mulder actually bisexual? Or do we just wish he was? haha Very good reasons to like the show, and I love when you can ship characters but it doesn’t HAVE to be in a relationship. Sometimes it works just as well as a friendship, you know? I haven’t watched The X Files before, but maybe I should!

    • Chiara says:

He’s not canonically bisexual, sadly, haha! But he has chemistry with a lot of people ;D Oh, shipping people in friendship as much as a romantic relationship is one of my all time favourite things. Mulder and Scully are soulmates, which just goes above and beyond everything. Ah, if you do, definitely let me know what you think, Lauren!

  3. Valerie says:

So, this post CONVINCED ME. I loved Stranger Things, and this is why I want to watch X-files. But then I wasn’t sure if I would like it.. BUT MIGHT AS WELL TRY RIGHT. Especially if you loved it so much! So glad it’s on Netflix!

    • Chiara says:

YESSSS. You have to tell me what you think, Valerie! It has that some ~weird~ vibe that Stranger Things has, which I hope convinces you even more :D I really do love it, and I’m so glad you have it on Netlix!

  4. Oh goodness, I have heard so many amazing things about The X-Files – it’s really a wonder I haven’t binge-watched it yet. It is on my list, though, right after Stranger Things! Mulder seems like such a teddy bear. I cannot wait to meet him & see for myself <3

    • Chiara says:

Stranger Things is delightful, and I really hope you enjoy it, lovely! I am quite amazed by how quickly The X-Files has jumped up into my favourite shows of all time. It’s quite incredible. Mulder is literally everything. You must share your thoughts with me once you watch it!

  5. Romi says:

Chiara, I’m snorting endlessly at the second paragraph of your first reason. Especially this little gem “Especially his face. I mean, look at it.” And then the fact you are so utterly obsessed (because you are, let’s be real here) with the themesong that you hummed it the ENTIRE TIME I was in Queensland. I mean, you wouldn’t stop. I heard it endlesslyyyyyyyyyyy. *pointedly looking at you rn*

I am quite intrigued to eventually get to this (although when that’ll happen, and now I know about the ALIVE DIRT who even knows), because I feel 50% like I’ll enjoy it and 50% like I’m gonna be terrified out of my skin. ADDITIONALLY, I totally thought it was all about aliens, even though we’ve TALKED abut it. Still. ALL THE ALIENS. EVERYWHEREEEE. That’s it, nothing else. You cannot convince me otherwise.

Fun fact about this blog series and specifically the posts where you talk about TV shows: I remember when you posted about Angel and I was like “that pink helmet is pretty adorable. I’m gonna watch this show” and then you BOUGHT ME BUFFY and we were bonded for life. Good times, Chiara, good times. But oh golly, I just went and looked at the comment I left on that post and AM LAUGHING. My comment. YOUR RESPONSE. They are pretty much a replica of you and I today, Chiara. 109%
    xx
