books i loved before blogging

Last week, I shared the first part of this series of posts about the books I loved before blogging, and here is the second. Just because these ones are in the second post does not mean I love them any less. I did this alphabetically by author surname!

Before Blogging Collage2

The Moth Diaries by Rachel Klein: This is one of those instances where I watched a movie, loved said movie, and then found out that beloved movie was actually an adaptation of a book. I absolutely adored The Moth Diaries movie, and I am happy to say that I loved the book just as much. I still remember the day I read it – home sick from uni and in one sitting. There are so many elements I love: the creepiness, the boarding school setting, and of course the intense and homoerotic friendship between the two main characters.

Sloppy Firsts (Jessica Darling #1) by Megan McCafferty: I picked this book up at the library one random time, and completely and absolutely fell in love. I have read it so many times, and it’s one that I love returning to for a lot of reasons (especially Marcus Flutie). Jess is such a hilarious narrator, and I adore the way she views life, and herself, and everything that happens in the intense year we get to read her diary.

Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier: I actually have talked quite a bit about how much I love this book on the blog before, but there was no way that it wasn’t making this list. It is, hands down, my favourite book of all time. Which is quite a feat, since there are a lot of books that I love. But this one most definitely takes the cake because it is perfection in every way. Just read it, and you’ll understand.

Ink Exchange (Wicked Lovely #2) by Melissa Marr: I really loved the first book in this series – Wicked Lovely – but there was just an extra amount of love for Ink Exchange. The characters were amazing, and there were awesome tattoos, and the whole thing was very sensual and intoxicating, and I am quite surprised that I have never re-read it. I’ve never finished the series, so maybe I will start it over again. I’d get to reacquaint myself with Irial ;)

Poison Study (Study #1) by Maria V. Snyder: Again, I have talked about my love for this book (and series), because two new books (with one to come out soon) have been released in the series! That was a hella exciting moment for me, because I thought my journey with Valek and Yelena had ended years ago. But thanks to the bookish gods, we were given three more books. The Study series is the quintessential YA/cross-over fantasy series in my opinion. It has everything you could ever want.

Touch of Power (Healer #1) by Maria V. Snyder: When Maria released this series, I was ecstatic, and ended up loving it almost as much as I had loved the Study books. With the same focus on magic and fantasy and politics, I devoured it, and its sequel. We shall not talk about the fact that I have been putting off the last book for several years now. Avry is not a carbon copy of Yelena, nor is Kerrick a carbon copy of Valek. The two series share elements, but stand apart quite vividly in their execution. I highly recommend them both to lovers of fantasy.

divSo these is the second list of books I loved before blogging. There is only one more to go *gasping*

Have you read any of these? What are some of the books YOU loved before blogging?

  1. Fun post, once again! I really loved Sloppy Firsts. I need to go back and re-read it and then finish the rest of the series. I believe I own the first few!

Another title I read before I started blogging was The Virgin Suicides. I thought of this now because it was also something I saw as a movie first – loved the movie and then realized it was a book.

Wicked Lovely has been on my TBR since forever and sadly I’ve yet to touch it, but your post makes me think otherwise. Haha. I’ve recently added Poison Study onto my forever growing TBR too, hopefully could read both of these pretty soon :)

  3. I LOVED Wildwood Dancing! I remember reading it when I was young and devoured it. Cybele’s Secret was also really good, but different, I’ve been waiting for another book in the series for so long. I love Juliet Marillier’s writing, I now read nearly everything she publishes. She’s hands down one of my favourite authors! Have you read Heart’s Blood? It’s a pretty interesting retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It’s very different, but it’s in Marillier’s style so I really enjoyed it.

I tried so hard to like the Healer series. Book one was really interesting, but then I found book two sooo long. I started book three but put it down after the first few chapters because I just couldn’t focus on it. I haven’t picked it up :/ I felt the same with the Study series. I had to read the first book twice because I couldn’t finish it, I haven’t started the third book yet but I do plan to at some stage :D

Yay! I’ve read two books from this list (and am making my way through the series on one of them, and am going to on the other)! I’m not only speaking of tbrs and THG! *cheers me forever* Success! And they are two that you have recommended me and I have enjoyed so much, so double success and endless cheering for the both of us. *lets off a confetti popper joyfully*

I actually see copies of the Wicked Lovely series about all the time, and I remember each time that you like it/have read it but I don’t think they’re ever the first book. Same deal with The Moth Diaries, but I saw the film trailer and didn’t think I’d cope with the creeeeep. That one I didn’t know you’d read it (but absently considered that you’d probably enjoy it? I call that very good intuition), though. I didn’t even know if it was the same book/movie! See all the things I’m learning?

I’m really keen to read all of the Study books and then get onto the new three, and then onto Maria V. Snyder’s other books! It’s exciting to know I enjoy them and they’re delightfully realistic and magical and VALEK and really lovely relationship building there and that there are MORE. It’s so wonderful. It makes me v happy.

I’m looking forward to your next compilation of books you loved before blogging! Perchance I will get to reading and commenting a little quicker on that (but this is me, and we can both doubt me freely). xx
