One of my favourite things is Christmas. Another is books. Another is presents. So the Aussie YA Secret Santa is something I look forward to all year because I get a SECRET CHRISTMAS PRESENT. And I also get to send someone ELSE A SECRET CHRISTMAS PRESENT.

A part of the Secret Santa thing is the blog hop, where you get to read more answers from moi to questions. So, here we go:

1. What are your top five favourite books this year?

I actually have had a hard time picking my top five, and I’m going to cheat a little because one of them is by an Aussie author so I’m putting that below ;) These are in no particular order:

dangerous girls

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

kings rising

Kings Rising by C.S. Pacat

poa

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

timekeeper

Timekeeper by Tara Sim

trk

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater (I didn’t get around to reviewing this perfection because I can’t.)

2. What are your top five Aussie YA this year?

shield

Shield by Rachael Craw (she’s an honourary Aussie)

a corner of white

A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty

cracks in the kingdom

The Cracks in the Kingdom by Jaclyn Moriarty (this is the sneaky one because this was definitely one of my fave books of all 2016)

a tangle of gold

A Tangle of Gold by Jaclyn Moriarty

introducing teddy

Introducing Teddy by Jessica Walton (not YA but the most precious of all Aussie books released this year)

3. How did you go with your Goodreads challenge?

I completed it! And super early, too. I set it to 150 books, and as of today I’ve read 165. GO ME.

4. What is your favourite blogging moment of 2016?

I guess this isn’t really a blogging moment, but it came from blogging so it totally counts. I got to meet my fave, Romi, this year (TWICE) and it was absolutely fantastic and magical and *trumpets*

5. What are your blogging goals for 2017?

I don’t really have any goals per se, but I really want to get back into being a better comment-er. I have let a lot of posts just sitting there without any replies or comments back, and even though I am going to get to them, next year I’d rather do them in a more timely manner (for both me anxiety wise and the lovely bloggers appreciation wise).

6. What books are you looking forward to in 2017?

I am SUPER KEEN for the sequel to And I Darken by Kiersten White (which only JUST missed out on being in my top five of 2016 *cries*). The second Timekeeper book has me incredibly excited, as well :D

7. What is your favourite thing about the Aussie YA community?

I guess it would be the fact that we get each others’ Aussie-ness. The culture here is very different to anywhere else, and there’s a good feeling that comes from knowing that the rest of the community gets it. Like how we all understand how shitty our public transport system is, how wildly our weather changes from one hour to the next, and all our little Aussie-isms and slang. It’s nice to have that camaraderie.

Clues for my Santee:

– We’ve never chatted before

– Your blog design is very minimalist

– A word in your blog title is kind of similar to mine

Great choices! I cannot WAIT to read Timekeeper – hopefully it gets here just in time for Christmas. And I can’t believe I forgot to include the Colours of Madeleine in my fave books of the year O_O There are just too many good ones!

  2. How fun! I love gifting books. Timekeeper is definitely a favorite of mine this year. I STILL need to read The Raven King, but soon! I’m hoping to read that and Winter sometime over my Christmas break since I won’t be working for a couple weeks.

Love those new edition HP covers and how great is Introducing Teddy?! I normally don’t read much fantasy, but I read a snippet of And I Darken yesterday and really liked it. Hope you love the sequel just as much!

I love these HP covers and I’m so glad I have them :D Introducing Teddy was just too beautiful. And ah, I really hope you continue with And I Darken! It was amazing!

  4. Goodness, I can 200% sympathise on not being able to review The Raven Boys – it is so astoundingly perfect through & through that there is no possible way to put it into words, never mind the irony. This is such a lovely blog hop & I hope you have such fun with it, dear friend! So looking forward to seeing the book that you receive from your secret santa. <3

    • Chiara says:

I can’t believe I reviewed the first three books in the series! I might re-read The Raven King next year and attempt a review, although we’ll see how that goes, haha. Thank you, lovely! I ended up receiving an LGBTQIA+ mystery/thriller :D

  5. DANGEROUS GIRLS! I reserved Timekeeper at the library because of your review on it, it sounds incredible! How good was the Jaclyn Moriarty series though, omg. WOAH CHIARA YOU HAVE KICKED YOUR GOAL That is incredible!

    • Chiara says:

I will never be over DG :D Oh, that is so awesome! I really hope you like Timekeeper <3 The Colours of Madeleine is one of my fave series now. So beautiful. Thanks, Jeann :D
