In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

At the end of 2015, I set myself three reading challenges for 2016, and to keep myself and you guys (because you are, of course, riveted by my reading life) updated on my progress, I thought I’d do a check in at the end of each month! So, here is my update for October:

goodreads challenge – 150 books

october-collage1

I read sixteen books in October, which brings me to a total of one hundred and forty nine books so far. I only have ONE book left to read before I have officially completed this challenge! I’ll still give updates, because I actually like reflecting back on what books I’ve read in a month, and also how many. But YESSS for me being so close to finishing it.

Titles reviewed:

The Last Beginning by Lauren James

Look Past by Eric Devine

lgbtqia+ challenge – 41-50 books

october-collage2

I read seven LGBTQIA+ books this month (total for 2016 so far: fifty). I’ve officially completed my LGBTQIA+ reading challenge for 2016! I haven’t reviewed every single LGBTQIA+ book that I’ve read (because sometimes I like reading just for reading), but a lot of them have been reviewed. At the end of the year I’ll do a round up of my LGBTQIA+ reviews, and see if that number falls into the 41-50 books threshold!

Titles Reviewed:

The Last Beginning by Lauren James

Look Past by Eric Devine

indie lgbtqia+ challenge – 1 book per month

october-collage3

It made me quite happy to read two indie LGBTQIA+ novels this month, because it means that I am definitely on track with this personal challenge. I can’t really complete this one until the end of the year, so I’ve still got two months left of reading at least one indie LGBTQIA+ book! I reviewed Look Past in October, and my review for Marian is actually going live this Friday – so keep an eye out ;D

  1. Romi says:

I’m pretty sure I just hit my GR reading challenge over the weekend, and all I can say is: thank you, manga. You’ve got a higher number of books to read, though, and you’re almost done! *cheering you* And you’ve read so many lgbtiqa+ books this year, almost a book a month, which is so amazing and completely fantastic. What was False Hearts like? (I saw it on your shelf when I was there and meant to ask because 1. Laura Lam. 2. I’ve actually heard about it (which is always something to note when it comes to me), and 3. I like the cover quite a bit. I hope it was really good! Will you be reviewing it?
I am also quite intrigued as to what Ten Count is about. I am gonna go see your GR and FIND OUT. xx

    • Chiara says:

Yay! Ah, manga is such a Goodreads challenge booster. I am forever thankful.

I have read a lot of LGBTQIA+ books this year, which makes me infinitely happy. Flase Hearts was okay. I won’t be reviewing it, because to be honest I just read it for me. The world building wasn’t fantastic, but both characters were women of colour, and bisexual (the word is U S E D), which was pretty hella awesome.

Ten Count is about a guy with extreme germophobia, a counsellor who decides to help him, and how they fall in love <3

  2. Jackie B. says:

I am not doing as well on my Yearly Challenges as I would like to be, sadly. I’m at 19/30 for my Listopia Challenge, 21/24 for Book Riot, and 34/40 for PopSugar. That said, I have read 151 books this year, really blowing away my goal of 101! I just can’t seem to read the books on my challenge lists. I think for next year I will commit to fewer challenges which require specific books to be read.

    • Chiara says:

Having read 151 books this year is amazing, Jackie! And you’ve read quite a lot for your challenges, too. I always like to pick challenges I know I will be able to complete without being stressed out because being stressed should never be a part of reading!

  3. Congrats on your progress with your reading challenges Chiara and completing the LGBTQIA challenge! Reading 16 books and 149 for the year is also amazing. Good luck for the rest of the year!

    • Chiara says:

Thank you! I am really happy that I’ve finished the LGBTQIA+ challenge (and now the Goodreads challenge, too!). I’m looking forward to seeing how many books I read over my goals, haha.
