In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

So you’ve probably all heard me squealing about my novel on Twitter, or talking about it here on the blog, and today: I thought I’d talk to you about the first “novel” I ever wrote.

Now I say “novel” because, really, it was just my 14 year old dreams. And no, I do not mean amazing dreams like changing the world or saving lives … I mean me 14 year old romantic dreams.

Here, I’ll give you a play-by-play:

Girl is in love with her best friend (okay to be clear here, I was not best friends or even friends with any of these boys, but hey, a girl can dream), Jiseppi (take note: boyfriend #1). Girl sees Jiseppi kissing another girl, gets jealous, and then they make up. But then they break up (that’s when the real life Jiseppi (also, his name was not Jessepi: for my own sake names are changed here) said something mean to me along the lines of “I would never date her“. Bleeping jerkface).

Along comes Edward (#2). Edward is pretty much perfect and the girl falls madly in love with him until he does a jerky thing (most likely in line with something the real Edward had done).

Enter Billy (#3). Billy wasn’t actually based off anyone in my life. I think I thought it was time for the girl to have a nice perfect boyfriend. But then Billy realises the girl is still in love with Edward and ‘sets her free because he loves her’.

New boy comes to town – Christian (#4). Christian is adorable and Italian, and was based off my local celebrity crush at the time (who was also ten years older than me but hey – 14 year old dreams again, right?). But when Christian leans in for a kiss, the girl says she’s in love with someone else and only sees him as a friend (probably me actualising the fact I would never get with the celebrity crush).

Then comes along Steven (#5), who is Edward’s older brother (who did not exist – I think I just wanted to play the ‘dangerous’ card – I mean this guy is 18 and wants a 14 year old girl – can I say WHAT). Steven also lets the girl free because he knows that she is still in love with his brother.

AND THEN. The girl sneaks into Edward’s mansion, IN A MAID’S UNIFORM AS A SNEAKY DISGUISE. And catches Edward with some girl. Main girl runs out (into the rain, of course), where Edward declares his undying love and they kiss passionately.

The End

So that was my first “novel”, pretty much me writing kissing scenes with my subsequent crushes of that time and compiling them into a storyline-less piece of mushy mush that is now hidden away in a wardrobe in my house somewhere never to see the light of day again.

I hope you enjoyed reading about my first foray into the writing of a novel (and I promise the one I’m writing at the moment is a lot better than First Kiss – which was the title. And was crap. That girl kissed FIVE BOYS, MULTIPLE TIMES. First kiss my butt).

  1. Lillian says:

I like Christian! That was a good ship and it sank! D:

Yes, I assure you(readers) that Chiara’s WIP is going to be fantastic! ^_^

My first story was this 17 year old girl who runs away because she didn’t fit in and builds and new life. Her parents were super cool about it and somehow, she made herself a huge house with recreational rooms and had the best wardrobe. (Back then, money was no issue for my characters) XD

    • Chiara says:

HAHA, I know! I even thought that when i was writing it XD

Awh, thank you! I really hope so <3

I love first stories! Money is never an issue in our first ideas, haha. In this story, the main character's parents didnt even live with her, and she was FOURTEEN. HAHA.

  2. That is a lot of kissing. XD Your 14-year-old you must have been dreaming for some excitement? ;) lol My “first novel” was when I was 12 and it involved a family moving from Italy to the Caribbean to become sort of Pirates (like Pirates of the Caribbean) before they moved to Narnia (because that’s totally logical). Pirates of the Caribbean in Narnia. You can’t say I wasn’t imaginative.
    *headdesk*

    • Chiara says:

      I know, right, haha XD

HAHA. Aw, Cait, that’s so cute! I think it’s great to start off inspired by other things, because I think it helps you realise what kind of writer you want to be, and what kinds of worlds you want to create ;D

  3. Okay, your first novel is adorable and makes me sound like a psychopath because MY first novel (think I was 13?) was a horror. And uhm . . . it was pretty gruesome lol.

It was about a bunch of teenagers going to this hotel which was haunted and getting stuck in the basement, which is basically an entire world of its own. They all start getting killed off one by one and getting possessed and the main character hallucinates a whole bunch and time keeps jumping back and forth. Then at the end she wakes up in a mental hospital and it turns out she was the one who went psychotic and killed all her friends. LOL.

    • Chiara says:

WOAH. That is an AWESOME first novel, Allie! I think it’s a little more imaginative than mine, haha.

I think you should totally do something with that idea, because I kinda want to read your book now! :D

  4. The first book that I actually finished I’m actually quite proud of – the plot is pretty good, if I do say so myself :P But the writing and characterization… oh good. Someday I’m hoping to rewrite the whole thing, because I looooveeed that concept. It was like Elves vs. Dark Elves and a group of teen Elves have to go search for the Ents (their gods, in a sense) to get help putting the rightful queen on the throne yada yada. I’m sure you can see the LOTR influences there ;) Eh, maybe it’s not so great after all. But it was oodles of fun writing it!

    • Chiara says:

WOOT! :D I remember being really attached to this novel which is funny when I look back on it and laugh at its ridiculousness, haha.

Oo it sounds pretty epic and who doesn’t love some LotR inspired fiction, huh? :D

  5. acps927 says:

LOL. Hey, it’s good to get that out of your system get on to writing some better stuff. :)

  6. Actually, there is a korean drama that involves 38 boys and one girl, but the 34 are irrelevant haha I remembered your novel to that drama! Anyways, the kisses are all over the plaaace. I can’t help but to smile at every boy’s description. And I also base the things I write on my real life crushes and celebrity crushes eeeep! XD I always write in drabbles or one shot when I was 13, but recently I wrote a long ass fic. My first novel (not really a novel but something 50 chapter-ed fic) was about a detective and culprit falling in love HAHA. I never uploaded it over the internet, so I am still trying to go over and improve it. Actually wrote it late 2012 I think :D Thanks for sharing, Chiara! :D

    • Chiara says:

Oh, gosh, haha! At least this one only had five XD

Yeah, I don’t think I realised that novels were supposed to be FICTIONAL, haha!

Wow! Congrats on writing such a long fic, Abby! The story sounds cute, too. It can be really hard sharing your stuff, but all the fic I’ve posted has been accepted really well. ^.^

  7. Nuuuuu, my love pentagon virginity has been broken! FIVE guys, Chiara? FIVE?! But lol, this was so fun to read. You definitely had an air for the dramatic. And if nothing else, at least you were original with the whole girl-likes-five-guys thing? ;D Seriously, I don’t think I’ll ever come across a plotline like that!

My first novel wasn’t that good either. I can’t remember much of it, since I wrote it in one of my primary school’s exercise books and threw it out in disgust a month after I wrote the first couple of “chapters,” but I know I was HEAVILY influenced by Totally Spies (that cartoon is the best) so it was something about a girl being secretly a spy and getting to fly all over the world in a super luxurious jet with some pretty uncreative gadgets.

I think I must’ve been high on sugar or something that day.

But yeah, even ten-year-old me knew that my writing and story idea for that book were crap, so after throwing that book out into the trash… I started YET another spy book. Oh gosh, this is humiliating! I’m curious about this new book you’re writing, though! WHAT’S IT ABOUT?!

    • Chiara says:

Obviously there is a gap in the market for love pentagons, right! HAHA XD I know I was a little outlandish, but hey, what can I say? I went through crushes like cake when I was fourteen.

Ohmygosh I LOVED Totally Spies! I was a little obsessed with that show when I was a kid ;D

Sugar highs can always give good ideas, in my opinion.

Spies are obviously your forte, Meg! Haha. My current book is a YA contemporary about some pretty dark themes. I’m keeping it a bit hush-hush at the moment because I am going to query it when I am finished (and have revised a bit)!

  8. LOL. That girl gets around. Oh man, I really loved the sound of Billy and Christian. Why does she have to go to Edward, that lying, cheating, scumbag? I think I’m too invested in this story for my own good… xD

Well at least you got it out of your system, right? And now you’re writing bigger and better books! :D

    • Chiara says:

She really does, haha XD Billy was perfect and I still don’t entirely understand why she broke up with him :S Edward was kind of an ass! But he was my main uber crush when I was 14, and obviously I could not get over him, haha. Yay for being invested :D

Thankfully, yes! And hopefully I am ^.^

  9. Ahhahaha I absolutely love this! Is it weird that I would probably enjoy it if you made this into a real book?

The amount of silly things I wrote when I was a twelvie. Oh where do I even start? D: My ideas literally range from werewolves to “super unsolvable and not obvious” mysteries!

  10. Five boys! I don’t know if I would’ve dared to go there. If I hadn’t previously read a book with five love interests when I started writing the story, I probably would have thought it was against the rules or something. Plus, I think I would’ve had a hard time keeping all those boys straight (especially if I’d had to make them all up).

    • Chiara says:

Haha. Back then, I wasn’t really thinking about plot – it was a bit of a mess!

Although I am pretty sure there are some books out there with four or so brothers as love interests!

  11. Ramisa says:

Oh, Chiara, this was brilliant. I’ve never laughed so much –although, sadly, it still sounds better than my first novel. xD
Isn’t it funny how quickly we grow? My ideas/thoughts when I was 12 varied so drastically to me now. Only 4 years, but so much growing!
I really missed your blog! I love your new colour scheme and your theme; it’s so beautiful.
Oh, and the “maid uniform” is possibly the best thing I’ve ever read. Just saying. :D

    • Chiara says:

Haha, I’m glad you got a laugh out of it, Ramisa XD

it is amazing how quickly out writing ideas and style progress over the years! Even though this was eight years ago, it’s quite amazing how different it is to the things I am writing now.

Awh, I’m glad you like it ^.^

HAHA. Oh, gosh, I have NO IDEA why that was in there, to be honest!

  12. Annie says:

That is so awesome!! Thank you so much for sharing it. I think all 14 year old girls need an outlet for their crushes and their unrealistic dreams of life and relationships. It’s what makes being a 14 year old girl fun. My first novel was a science fiction story with, of course, everyone falling in love with the teenage girl.
