artistry

In my travels of the internet, I come across very talented people. Writers, photographers, painters, drawers, graphic designers. And when I find these artist’s beautiful work, I want to share it with as many people as possible. So that is why I decided to create Artistry: A Spotlight. To showcase some of the art that I come across. I hope you enjoy these artists as much as I do.

Today I’m spotlighting one of my FAVOURITE Instagram bookstagrammers (IDK if that’s the right term, but I’m rolling with it). Alexandra seriously takes the most BEAUTIFUL AND PRETTY photos, and whenever I look at them I feel all floaty :D (I want to take photos as pretty as hers) I hope you enjoy this spotlight!

1. What inspired you to take up photography?

i actually have no idea when i got into photography. i’m a visual person and tend to gravitate towards pictures. when Instagram was launched years ago, i immediately fell in love with the platform. i still don’t reeeaally consider myself a photographer because having an Instagram doesn’t automatically label you as “photographer.” i remember finding a ton of gorgeous Instagram accounts and thinking, “i want to take pictures like THAT and be super artsy.” yes, i know that sounds kinda lame but WHATEVER that’s how i got into photography!

2. What’s your favourite photo that you’ve ever taken?

my favorite photo i’ve taken might be a bit biased because it’s very recent. i always like my self-timer photos better because i never know if it’s in focus on me; i need to play both the roles photographer and model, which makes it so exciting, challenging, and fun. there are also some others that surprised me at how nice they turned out!

3. How would you describe your photography style?

i like to think that my photos are clean, crisp, and cute. i tend to make my pictures a bit overexposed to get a light and airy feeling. i’d like to think i have a minimalistic style, but i also like to have pictures messy and colorful. maybe my photography style is just CONFUSED.

4. What’s your favourite word and why?

“twirling” is my favorite word for a few reasons. 1) it’s actually a pun with my last name – ling! get it? twirLING. 2) it’s also my favorite step in ballet, which is turning. 3) the word itself isn’t super popular (and by that i mean, people tend to think of “turning” instead) and has a light sound. i’m a lover of puns and i feel like this word is basically a pun for my life put into two syllables so i tend to overuse it. *hides*

Gorgeous pics and I love how her bookshelves are colour inspired! I need to join Instagram – seems like there’s a whole world of interior design and books out there that I’m missing out on! But then twitter would miss me… and Pinterest… Ah, too much technology!
