2016 Reading Challenges Update (#2)
In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.
At the end of 2015, I set myself three reading challenges for 2016, and to keep myself and you guys (because you are, of course, riveted by my reading life) updated on my progress, I thought I’d do a check in at the end of each month! So, here is my update for February:
goodreads challenge – 150 books
I read twelve books in February, which brings me to a total of twenty books so far. And I’m four books behind. *wails endlessly* I feel like I will never not be behind. I mean, many of these were short stories and novellas, which take no time at all to read, and I AM STILL BEHIND.
Titles reviewed:
Not If I See You First by Eric Lindstrom
Lyra by Erica Crouch (the LGBTQIA+ short story in Polaris Awakening)
(Other titles have reviews coming up closer to their release dates.)
lgbtqia+ challenge – 41-50 books
I read four LGBTQIA+ books this month (total for 2016 so far: seven), which is a tiny improvement on last month’s three, but still only one a week! I need to get cracking on this challenge if I want to read 41-50 by the end of the year.
Titles Reviewed:
Lyra by Erica Crouch
(A batch of mini reviews for the other titles is coming up soon!)
indie lgbtqia+ challenge – 1 book per month
I am so glad that I am managing this challenge, because it’s really important to me. I read Lyra by Erica Crouch for the challenge this month, and it was a gorgeous title. I recommend it highly! I hope I can keep up with this challenge, because it seems to be the only one that I’m doing well *laughs nervously*
How are you going with your reading challenges for 2016?
Wandering Son looks really interesting, and omg, that cover is sO CUTE. I love your goal to read as many LGBT books every month – and ohmy, I love David Leviathan’s books.
Wandering Son is so lovely, and I definitely recommend it! Thank you :D And DAVID LEVITHAN IS EVERYTHING.
I was ahead with my GR challenge but having had vertigo for the past week and not being up to reading, I’m no longer in front :( I’m going OK with my challenges, just need to get back to reading! It’s actually quite funny – I went from no challenges, to ALL THE CHALLENGES. Literally. I’m doing 9. Although I’m not stressed about it, just doing it for fun :)
Oh, no! That sucks so much, lovely. I’m sorry :( NINE IS SO INTENSE! I don’t think I could handle nine, haha XD But I’m glad you’re doing it for fun! I think when we make reading a chore it loses its shine.
I decided not to take part in any challenges this year because I knew it would be a crazy busy year for me but now I’m wishing that I took part in a LGBTQIA+ challenge because I’m not reading as much of them as I should be (however the books I am reading are 98% written by females which is a huge improvement and hugely important to me so I’m happy about that!). Small things.
Actually, even writing this comment and reading this post has made me realise that I need to hunt for books about bisexuals. I gotta get the representation somewhere, right?
I know what you mean! I only decided to do challenges I knew I could easily complete even if I hadn’t signed up for them, because stressing about reading is ew. Awh, no. You can always browse Goodreads to try and find some more! And reading female authors is A+
You do! I actually have a bisexual shelf on Goodreads, which I will link you to now (https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/12889649?shelf=lgbtqia-bisexual). Unfortunately some of them have pretty shitty rep. I rec Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace because it is A+ (it doesn’t have romance, though, but I loved it).
