books-for-life

In an effort to share more of myself with you guys I created Books for Life. I talk about my life outside of this sanctuary called the blogosphere. Hopefully you guys like getting to know the girl behind the blog a little bit more.

At the end of 2015, I set myself three reading challenges for 2016, and to keep myself and you guys (because you are, of course, riveted by my reading life) updated on my progress, I thought I’d do a check in at the end of each month! So, here is my update for January:

goodreads challenge – 150 books

January Collage

I have read seven books so far, but will have finished an eighth (The Cracks in the Kingdom by Jaclyn Moriarty) by the actual end of month (since this is going up on the 30th and not the 31st). Apparently, this is shitty progress, as Goodreads finds it necessary to remind me that I am four books behind schedule. I obviously need to up my reading speed.

Titles reviewed:

Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvis

Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen

A Corner of White by Jaclyn Moriarty

(All the others have reviews coming up in February, except Phantom Eyes, which was a pleasure read.)

lgbtqia+ challenge – 41-50 books

January Collage2

I read three LGBTQIA+ books this month, which is not as many as I had hoped, but there were review copies that I needed to read ASAP. I need to read more than three a month to get to my goal of 41-50 by the end of the year. I AM SO BEHIND ON EVERYTHING, WHYYYY?

Titles Reviewed:

Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvis

Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen

indie lgbtqia+ challenge – 1 book per month

scardust

Well, I am actually on track with this challenge! My indie LGBTQIA+ novel for the month of January was Scardust by Suzanne van Rooyen. Which I really liked, which is always a bonus! I hope I can keep this up, because this challenge is super important to me.

So there’s my January progress with my reading challenges! I am somewhat happy, but I hope to do better in February!

How are you going with your reading challenges for 2016?

  1. Katherine says:

The only reading challenge I had for myself was just the Goodreads goal, which thanks to some time off from school at the beginning of the month, I’m head of! Good luck with the rest of your challenges! I’m looking forward to hopefully reading more LGBT+ books this year as well, although I’m not doing any official challenges.

    • Chiara says:

That’s awesome that you’re ahead! I think I’m behind because I read a few long books, and then was – for some reason – taking ages to finish some of the books I read D: I hope I get back on track in February! Ah, I hope you read more LGBTQIA+ books! If you ever need recs, ‘Im your person :D

  2. Good luck with your 150 books!! I’ve been reading The Cracks in the Kingdom for aaaaages because my work thinks it’s fun to give me 10-hour shifts -_-

  3. HOLY SMOKES, 150 books is an incredible challenge! I set mine at 130 at the start of the year but I definitely couldn’t keep up with the reading pace, so I pushed it back down to 120. Scardust has such a beautiful cover and I’ve heard good things about Symptoms of Being Human!

    • Chiara says:

It is! I managed to read 130 or so books last year, and I wanted to make it 150 this year! I hope I can do it, but I’m already behind, which doesn’t bode well, haha XD I hope you read 120, Jeann! Scardust is SO GORGEOUS. I kind of want to buy a physical copy to look at it all the time XD Symptoms of Being Human was really good!

  4. Hey, I only read 3 books at ALL this month, so 3 LGBT+ books is great too! I love all these reading challenges — your passion for this cause just amazes me. All the best with 150 books a year, that’s a huge accomplishment!

  5. 150 books?! Good luck! I set a similar challenge last year, but I only met half my goal. (I think it was more to do with the fact that I had not updated my Goodreads in months, than actually not reading.) But holy crap, I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes. (And watching you succeed. I HAVE FAITH IN YOU.) Scardust has such a lovely cover, on another note.

    • Chiara says:

Thank you! Ah, yes. I used to be quite bad with Goodreads, but I do like keeping track of the books I read, so I use it practically every day now, haha XD

      THANK YOU! <3

Ah, yes. I am half inclined to buy it just so I can stare at that cover all the time *heart eyes*
