thoughts

Books for Thought is where I post a discussion topic related to books, reading, writing, or something pertaining to one of the three. I hope you’ll join in, and discuss today’s topic of

reading challenges of 2014

This year, I only partook in two reading challenges because I like winning and when I don’t win …

So I decided to just do the general Goodreads Challenge and the Australian Women Writers Challenge. How did I go? Well….

Goodreads Challenge

Last year, I set myself to 100 and surpassed it, so I decided I would set it to 100 again this year. And then 125, and then 150. Needless to say: I BEAT THIS CHALLENGE’S BUTT, YO. (I read 165 bookeroonies.)

I really hope I can read over 150 books again this year. I love reading that many because it makes the sadness of not being able to read all the books I want a little less painful because I know I’m reading quite a large amount.

Australian Women Writers Challenge

I set myself to the Franklin level, which involved reading ten books from female Australian writers. I had a list of books that I thought I was going to read (key word: thought). In reality, these changed. The books I ended up reading were:

Haze by Paula Weston

Girl Saves Boy by Steph Bowe

The Sky So Heavy by Claire Zorn

Between the Lives by Jessica Shirvington

Hidden by Marianne Curley

Disruption by Jessica Shirvington

Embrace by Jessica Shirvington

The Minnow by Diana Sweeney

Crossing by Catherine Norton

Shimmer by Paula Weston

The Astrologer’s Daughter by Rebecca Lim

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

Zac and Mia by A.J. Betts

Every Breath by Ellie Marney

Cooper Bartholomew is Dead by Rebecca James

Every Word by Ellie Marney

Corruption by Jessica Shirvington

This Shattered World by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

17 books by Australian women writers! And reviews for 9 of them. Challenge? Completed.

  1. Congratulations on completing both of your challenges Chiara! What an awesome accomplishment! <3

  2. zayuummm 165 books!? THAT’S EPIC! I’m aiming for 115 books this year. Hopefully I can do it since I sucked last year hahaha. I was just too busy with school so I don’t really feel disappointed in myself.

I KNOW. I seriously never expected to read that many, especially since I barely made it to 100 in 2013!

School takes precedence over reading, unfortunately. >.> But hopefully you can complete your challenge this year, Leigh :D

  3. WOOOHOOO CONGRATS CHIARA! You smashed it! I’m still twitching from the fact that I didn’t round my GR challenge off to a number divisible by five LOL I got to 132. I wanted 135. That will probably forever haunt me.

  4. Great job on completing both challenges! You read a lot of books in 2014 :D

  5. Congrats on slaying those challenges!

  6. You are a reading machine, Red!

I only managed to read 70 books despite setting my initial challenge as 80. Oh well, we have a new year so I will get to my original goal this year, yesss!

  7. Mawa Mahima says:

YES BARNEY STINSON. HE IS AWESOME.
Congrats on achieving both of the challenges (dangum, woman, 165 books?!)

  8. Vicky says:

Congratulations on your challenges you did amazingly! I didn’t make my Goodreads Challenge last year but I’m giving it another go this year though! Happy New Year and good luck with your challenges in 2015!
